vin...

sorry to see your vid... pretty messed up. Is it rattling on the bottom where it bolts onto the body? or is it only the top half of the seat? I'm just trying to figure out the problem.

I just ask because my seats don't have that problem (thankfully). I know others have had similar issues but I don't know the severity. I've taken my seats off (both driver and passenger) and they're fine.

Hopefully toyota will fix that for ya. Looks like a simple fix unless otherwise.

Good luck

Lance...its not the bolts, the whole seat just moves... I already went the lemon law route and won :D just waiting for my check and they will take the truck.

wow!

Just trying to make sense of all this; did you try bolting down the seat or was it all the way down and there was still give?

anyway, whatcha gettin? a 4runner again?

I am amazed at how much play their is and that Toyota could not fix it. I think Toyota better get their act together. If it were me, I wouldn't get another 4Runner. None of my cars have anything like that and if it did, especially a new one, I wouldn't buy another one.

I am glad you won your case & I hope Toyota is listening.

Not to be mean . . .

Hey all!

This is the same thing that started with the failing of my 4Runner. Everyone told me to get over it. But, when you see something like that, and your told that it's "Normal" someone has to step up and say ENOUGH!

Vinny & I live on almost the other side of the country. I'm in Ca and he's in Fl. And yet we both have the same problems with our seats? Hello . . . No one seems to be looking at the big picture here. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE SEATS. This pretty much show's all of you that we are not just pretending. To have Toyota always state that there is nothing wrong . . . IS WRONG!

Until someone steps up and states ENOUGH this will continue. Do you want to wait and see if your seats fail while a loved one is driving it?

I can't wait to see how this seat does in a head-on. Good luck, and contact your insurance agent for a great life policy, cuz your going to need it.

Craig-

Craig...I couldn't of said it better myself, Bravo !

Josh...Why would I want to try to fix a problem that is a defect from toyota. After spending over 30k do you think its right that I should have to fix it ? I guess you don't have this problem so you don't know how it feels to drive with your seat moving

:rolleye2:

When I have been going to the dealers the last couple days and going through the run arounds about this, I see you can take off the seating fabric to get down to the bare metal frame.

It might of been worth wild to see if there was anything you can do?

I assume if is not the reclining mechanism., most likely the adjust to raise the seat up and down and the lumbar.

If my seat was going that, I would have the dealer take the seat apart, get some metal stock and start welding.

Granted, you would of lost the lumbar adjustment and the raise/lower adjustment, but it would not be no where near anything like that.

OMG!

I didn't realize it was that bad. My seat definitely doesn't do that (yet) and no doubt I would demand a replacement or Lemon buy-back if it did (ever does).

That's just silly!

Sorry about your problem, thank goodness I do not have that problem yet. That would drive me crazy especially hitting potholes or speedbumps.

Safety issues

FYI

Make sure if you have any complaint that you think is remotely affecting your safety to log it with NHTSA (www.nhtsa.dot.gov). Add to their consumers complaint database because that is what literally drives manufacturers to action if the problems hit a high severity or frequency. The car makers hate it but as the saying goes "the squeeky wheel gets the grease".

Have you lemoned your Runner yet? If not I would get it back to the dealer and keep taking it back while I get a lawyer. That seat is not acceptable at all, it is nuts!!

Cali laws is completely in your favor, just take it to the dealer state exactly what should go on the work order. DIrect them word for word. If you pick it up and it is not fixed. Just take it back and state again word for word what should go on work order. In the meantime get a lemonlaw lawyer, plenty in Cali.

Vin,

When you win lemonlaw, do you get all your money back? Like taxes, fees, etc so if you want you can go buy a similar vechile (price wise) with out it costing you?

That seat is just nuts. I would defintely not even touch it, and that is my advise. If something is that messed up dont touch it, just take it back to the dealer. You dont want them to say you messed with it, and that voids the warranty.

I have said it before, but will say it again. I'm very disappointed in Toyota dealers and their ability to fix problems. It seem if you buy a Toyota it's DIY for a lot of things. Fortunately my biggest issue I will fix with a grease gun :) driveline lube.

Look at the bright side, you guys with the rocking seat can practice to be a professional bull-rider during your everyday commute :D

i know the seat it defective but, in the meantime why dont you just fix it yourself?

So, I spend $35,000 on a 2003 4Runner, and I my self need to fix the seat track system and reinforce the seat frame on a BRAND NEW truck? That's why I bought this new vehicle. It was to prevent having problems, not learing how to jerry-rig the front seats.

Although, I do have a nice folding lawn chair that I could put in. It even has it's own cup holder! Anyone have some rope? I wonder if the roof rack can hold my mother-in-law?

No offense, but it really seems you are jerking on that seat and some of the noise sounds like it is coming from the microphone on the video camera. I mean, you are reeffing so hard on the seat, the entire vehicle is moving it looks like. :dunno:

I mean, I can see it is loose, but you are beating the living crap out of it.

Bench seats in trucks in the mid 90's moved like that too and there was nothing wrong with them.

I do not know...

Your right !! You don't know:rolleye2:

All the noise you hear is coming from the seat and the vehicle is NOT moving. I'm demonstrating how much play is in the seat, if I did that on the passenger seat it would not budge. Now when your driving it doesn't move like that because of the drivers weight on the seat but it does move.

Do not get mad, but if you clearly watch the video, the entire vehicle is shaking. Look at the passenger seat belt, its moving like you are going over bumps at 40 mph.

And have you owned a extended cab truck with bench seats from the early 90's? or a Pre 1993 S-10 Blazer 2 door, the seats moved that much.

Let everyone watch the video again and you can see the passenger seat belt shaking pretty good and actually at one point the camera is going up and down. I do not know if you had the camera mounted to the door of the Runner with the window down, but whatever the camera was attatched too, it was moving too.

And yes, i do realize there is something wrong with the seat, it should not move that much. Apparently the dealer does not know what they are doing to fix it.

It that was my vehicle, would of done like I said before. Take apart the seat, find out where it is loose and start welding.

Did you even try to have the dealer or during arbitration try to have them install power leather seats since those do not have the problem?

I am sure Toyota would of did that since it would of saved them money.

The movement you are seeing is probrably caused by me standing on the running board while shaking the seat.

I have never owned a extended cab truck with bench seats from the early 90's or a Pre 1993 S-10 Blazer 2 door. If the seats moved that much in those trucks I would of lemon law them also.

The truck was at the dealer 5 times for the same problem. In the beginning they said there is a problem then they said its normal. I even meet with the factory rep twice.

You said you would take the seat apart to see whats loose and start welding ?? Not only would you be voiding your warranty but you would be putting the driver of the truck in danger if was in a accident. If you want to try to fix a problem on a truck that you just paid over 30k for thats up to you..

I offered to pay part of the price for a power seat but the factory rep said it cannot be done because of safety issues.

Its obvious the loose seat is a safety issue, thats why I won my lemon law case.
