Here's a stupid question ...

New Toyotas all seem to come with those little metalic stickers that have a stamped number on them and say something like "Prefered Dealers" in the driver and passenger window. When we were purchasing the vehicle, our salesman recommended not to remove them because 1. it would be difficult to do so and 2. they could not be replaced. He said that they have to do with security or theft I.D. or something. We didn't care about them enough to question it at the time, but now we would rather have them gone. What are they and should they be removed? Are they like the little tag on a mattress that says "do not remove under penalty of law"?

I'll snap one tonight. I didn't really think about it much, I just assumed that all Toyotas came from the factory with those stickers. If you don't know what I'm talking about then maybe it's just an individual dealer thing. At our dealership, every new Toyota seemed to have them.

They're not dealer logo stickers. "Sticker" was probably not the right word to use anyway. They are thin metal applications with like an eight-digit "stamped" reference or ID number, they are applied on the outside corner of each window, and you can see an adhesive substance on the back of them. No doubt they will come off, but they're not going to simply peel off like a sticker. I'll get a photo of it tonight.

Here's a photo of the tags (finally). The "stamped" I.D. numbers are different on other vehicles. Anyway, they're coming off. Just wondered if anyone knows what they are used for.

Hmmmm..... I figgered the best way to find the answer was to call the #. Apparently they're some kind of security or insurance service you could have contracted for through the dealer. If you had signed a contract with the dealer, in case of theft of your truck you could report it to that # and "file a claim".

Only thing I have there is fake Lojak stickers. They look so good they fool me & I put 'em on! I have had a lot of folks ask me what Lojak costs. Damifino. :satan:

Every new Toyota on the lot had the tags on three windows. Our sales did say it was a security I.D. but we did not contract anything special through the dealer.

I called the number several weeks ago, but didn't want to go through the tele-recording maze. I guess I'll call it again and try to talk to someone.

bluewolf, I've called the number and ask what the sticker is all about...and the lady said it is about a repair service contract that you have through your dealer ship....she also asked my name to check in the system...but obviously it is not... ...so you should go ahead and call them...listen to the greeting message you know at least what this service is about

You may want to look at your paperwork and see if there's anything listed you don't remember approving. It's just possible you DID pay for something. These things are usually just money makers for the dealers and I would guess this one of them.
