hesitation / shuttering brakes (driveway or red lights)

1.) I'm experiencing a hesitation when accelerating after being parked overnight and pulling out of the driveway or occasionally when taking off from a red light. I push the gas and there's a hesitation and then it just takes off. It feels like I'm getting bumped from behind before taking off. It seems like it happens most often just after leaving the house.

2.) Also, when I brake coming in very slowly to the driveway or to a red light, it shutters and then the brakes lock up hard. My front brakes are new and rear brakes are fine. For example, if I pull my car from the driveway to my garage, it almost always does this. Again, this is something that only seems to happen early on driving.

3.) My ABS light has been on since I've owned it, which I've just now began to try to diagnose since having these braking issues. I'm getting Code 32: Left front wheel speed sensor signal malfunction. Tried cleaning the sensor, but that did nothing.

Anyone else experience anything like this? It started around 8 months ago, but I haven't driven my truck much this year due to work and have just began getting back under the hood.

Work completed within the last year:

Fuel filter changed
Spark Plugs Changed
Plug Wires Changed
New MAF sensor
Valve Cover Gaskets replaced along with all other related parts
IAC Cleaned
Throttle Body Cleaned
Front Diff Fluid replaced
New Intake hose
 
I had the same issue and it was leaking rear axle seals, they swell from being soaked in gear oil. Once you drive around for a little bit does it stop acting like this? Mine was really noticeable when it was cold and/or damp out. I'd pull the rear drums(easy enough to do) if I was you and see what you find. I'd bet you'll find gear oil in there.
 
Well that's quite a few things. What year engine and transmission we working on.:)

Jmat suggestion is a very great place to start as sticking rear breaks from gear oil is quite common. :)

From your responses and my research, I believe it is the rear seals. I don’t feel it in the pedals when braking. It seems like it’s coming from the rear. And the hesitation seems to go away after driving for a while. When hesitating while accelerating, it feels like a bump from behind. Kind of like it’s breaking free from something. It happens almost every time when driving a short distance from my driveway to my detached garage. Going to inspect tomorrow. Building new baby nursery furniture tonight.

If it is the seals, I’m going to replace them myself. Also, I plan on draining and refilling front and rear diff, and t-case fluid. I have 235k miles and I don’t know when the previous owner changed it out. He was mechanically savvy, so I’m sure he did before. Just not sure when, and I’ve had it for 35k miles.

When I change fluids, do you recommend making the swap to synthetic? And do I have to do anything special to make the switch?

Will update with findings from removing the wheel and drum.

I stuck with conventional gear oil. I actually had a leak on one of my seals when I switched to synthetic oil so I switched it back and never leaked since. It wasn't much that leaked, but it did. I've changed mine out so often I go with the cheap stuff. I use mine for a bit of overlanding travel so I change it out often, river crossings and such. I like to do it as preventative maintenance and it's pretty easy to change.

Interesting point. I've seen where some have said synthetic gear oil caused leaks for them as well. I wonder if the issues I'm experiencing could be due to synthetic already being in the diff. Maybe I should swap it out and refill to a cheap conventional to see what happens and see if my issues go away. Or do any of you think it's most likely the seals? Pulling the wheels to check for oil tonight. I can't see oil over spray or stains inside the fender well.
 
Synthetic shouldn't be causing any leaks if everything is in good shape. I've been all synthetic in every vehicle for years.

Is synthetic needed? Not going to go there. I see the wisdom in conventional and frequent changes too. I may consider this in the rear diff also.
 
The passenger rear axle seal is definitely leaking. The driver side is clean as a whistle. Can I get away with just swapping the passenger side?

You should be able to, it likely started leaking because your rear diff breather is plugged so make sure you fix that while you're at it. I just did the passenger side when I did mine as well as extend the rear breather
