Hi-Lift on Stock Rack?

I have the stock roof rack with the bars removed at the moment because one of the clips broke. I am not a huge fan of the cheaper baskets that companies make(that I can afford that is), so I want to see if I can make something work with my stock rack. I have a hi-lift taking up space in the trunk that I would like to put up top of it is possible. Has anyone on here done this? If so, give me some insight, or steer my in the direction of someone who has done something similar. Thanks! (PS: I have a sunroof.)

I used these mighty mounts. I ran screws through the the center of the mount and took two large metal washers and two large rubber washers. I sandwiched the hi lift between them and used large plastic wingnuts to snug it all together. Worked great.

Well, it's on the roof now! I didn't put it on the upper rack, I mounted it only on the lower bars and it looks great, I used your same basic design, but I am too cheap to buy the rubber, so I cut up a pair of Dollar Tree flip flops and made my own bushings. It honestly doesn't look bad considering I spent a total of $4 for all 3 mounts! I will put some pictures up tomorrow when I get home from school.

I would have a need for it quite often, not as much as I would like, but compared to losing the trunk space all the time, and having to dig for it and push it around when getting to my toolboxes in the back that I use daily, it works out great for me.

You can get t-slot nuts to insert into the channel, and then run some bolts into them.

If I know that I'm not going out for a little while, I will just stick it in the back seat on the floor, but it is still in the way, and I have to keep it with me because my stock jack is botched. I'm too cheap to buy another...

Anyone have an idea to lock your Hi-Lift, like a locking bolt? Similiar to a locking lug nut? I was thinking of making something out of a pistol breach lock with the cable, but maybe someone has a better idea.

Locking knobs fail. Simple hammer, or channel locks bypass them instantly. I ran a master lock Through the jack body. And another one on a securing "pin".

Think of ARC's bolts, only mine has a drilled out bolt AND lock nut, with a 1/4" padlock through it.

What I am doing is putting 2 I bolts into the rack, then running a good bike lock chain through the holes on the lift and then through that, so if someone has to steal it, they have to cut the chain, undo 3 bolts, or take the actual rack off, I am really just trying to stop the average kid from running up, spinning off the wing nuts, and running. If someone really wants to go through all the trouble now, that's their problem lol

Back before I figured out I didn't ever use my Hi Lift and stopped driving around with it I had 1/2" bolts that it mounted to. Drilled a hole through the side of one and put a small padlock through the hole after the wingnut was on.

Now the hi lift lives in my barn and gets more use than it ever did four wheeling. My go to is a hydraulic bottle jack, which has been used many many times in the last 25+ years.

I did something similar to ARC, just used the stock cross bars and drilled. Came out pretty money, easy to access when I've needed it.

Here is what I did. I already had the Yakima mounts from when I had a kayak, so I didn't spend any extra money.

I used some old end link bushings and washers to lock everything down. I didn't use wing nuts just to help prevent theft. I know a lot of people have tools with them, but if someone wants to take this they will actually have to try a little bit.
