I put the HID conversion in my 4runner, but the lights flicker, constantly, any idea's on why it does that?

x2 on bad ballasts. Had that problem with my first set. Returned them and got another set. Fixed the problem.

Believe it or not i have actually seen people have issues with there battery not putting out enough juice also. I used to have huge issues in my old vehicle with hids just shutting off and flickering, even with a direct relay kit running to the battery.

I bought a set, installed and loved them. Then I got pulled over for driving with a headlight out, then they failed on and off, then they just failed. Awesomeness of seeing 15 feet further SOMETIMES, over. I replaced my factory lights and harnesses with auto zones finest and abracadabra! Lights on, Lights off. All on command, every time. :)

Just wondering as flickering usually means the ballasts are note getting enough power.

Steve

if my headlights arent in the "on" position the HIDs flicker due to the DRLs. ive been too lazy to disable them but i learned a quick/temporary fix is just throw the highbeams on during the day.

That still blinds people haha but I guess thats why its a quick fix?

my hids are single beam and don't have the extra halogen bulb connected so when I turn the highbeams on the hids turn off and there is no light at all.

i do have drl, and i ahve the competition 6 pack battery, yellow top, so it def should be getting enough power, but i still cant figure this out

what kit did you buy? i have problems with my DDM kit.. i think addictedoffroad and a couple others have had problems with those ballasts too. Sometimes one headlight will stay on after i've turned my headlights off, sometimes one will not turn on when i turn my headlights on. It's random, I've checked the wiring and the connections but I've just narrowed it down to the ballasts being messed up. I don't know what else would do it.

yeah my right one flickers constantly, the left one flickers when it is warming up, and has ticks, but the right one is bad, i bought a relay switch that is suppose to cancel out the flickering, if that doesn't work, im juust going to buy a whole new kit and start fresh

994runna,

I'm assuming you are using a relay harness. A relay harness will power the ballasts directly from the battery however it uses your OEM headlight harness to trigger the relay on/off. In DRL mode the relay is most likely not getting enough power to stay closed which is why your lights flicker.

i just bought my 4runner, and haven't had time to really look into how the DRL's are powered, but i do know from experience that there are some cars that run DRL's by fluctuating between 0v and 12v rather than a constant 6v. If the 4runner fluctuates from 0v to 12v, then that would explain the flickering....

your solution? buy a can-bus ballast.
