Ok, I'm a little confused... what's the difference between the two options here? One is Halogen and the other Bi-Xenon. And do both have hi and low beams? Are they both HID?
 
I've had both, I started with plug and play HID's from DDM and got this

the lighting was decent until my good conscience gave me a beat down as I was lighting the insides of peoples cars in front of me. let alone people flashing me from the front. I finally just aimed them down and it got even worse. I could only see maybe 20 feet in front of me and that was it. Scary as hell driving down a dark road. So i opted for the retrofit too and got this.

According to GottaBeTRD, drop-in HID's are just a waste of time and money since the beam pattern is not clear and does not project well. In fact, it seems that it may be worse than OEM and if that's true, I may as well hold a flashlight outside when I drive at night.

I don't know what to do at this point. I'm sick of paying so much money for these PIAA bulbs. They do last a decent amount of time, but these stupid daytime running lights that I can't shut off it what kills these bulbs. (I wish I could get rid of the mandatory daytime running lights...)

What is the overall cost for doing the HID conversion and how long does it take to do?

it can be very expensive if you buy expensive parts. you can do your own with some Acura TL projectors and some 4Runner head lamps from the junk yard for relatively cheap. honestly the combinations of parts you can use and the places you can buy them are endless it'd be best for you to do some google searching on how to perform a retrofit. you could even search this site i am sure there are more than one write up on this forum.

That is what I was about to do, but it looks like it may not be any better than the PIAA bulbs I've been running currently. And the PIAA bulbs are 1/2 the price.

To be honest, I'll probably never do the retrofit as the truck has a lot of miles on it now, and I plan on replacing it in the next year or so.

I am wondering however... is there any way to stop the daytime running lights on this truck? That's what's killing my bulbs anyway...

You can disconnect your DRLs pretty easily as I am not very mechanically inclined and I could do it!

Welp, I think this just solved my entire problem. I've been wondering for YEARS how to shut these damn DRL's off so my bulbs will last longer, and I never thought it was possible. I just gave up... it was a long time ago though.

I think my solution now is to replace my PIAA's one last time since they do work nicely, and now I know they'll last A LOT LOT LOT longer because of the DLR's being off. In the meantime, I threw a stock bulb in the one side so I won't get a ticket. That'll do for a little while... in the meantime, I'll still consider other options to the PIAA's, but if I'm going to go with an alternative, it has to be better than the PIAA's and be a drop-in unit. Let's see where this goes...

Sometimes getting information is more valuable than making a change. It can confirm you're doing something right, or show you you're doing something wrong. In this case, the PIAA's are a good move to stick with so far, and more importantly, I learned how to get rid of my DLR's which have been annoying the sh!t out of me for YEARS!!!!!!! As well as been burning up my bulbs prematurely...

Also, if there's a better option than the PIAA's, I'm all for it.
 
This is good, you would have had to disable your DRL's with HID's anyways, or you would have been wasting money burning up bulbs and ballast.
 
sounds like things worked out. Sorry if i came up negative in any way. I just like to share my experience of trial an error.

At first I was in no way gonna do a retrofit but I didn't want to waste the HID's I just bought. Good luck man!
