Agreed.....and not having enough amp draw due to a lack of a good power source (main power like a good battery to supply power to the headlights) can also produce some flickering, which is the cause of the surge on the main power which prevents a proper start up. HID's needs all the power it can get to ignite a 23,000 something volt to strike an arc.

yeah man i think you can just pull the plug on yours. Your DRL module is right by the battery if im not mistaken. just look up a DLR disable. Im pretty sure the guy who did it had a 99. so you wouldnt have to cut any wires.

Gosh i tell you those stock bulbs are pretty tough ive had them in there for over 3 years now with the DRL's and not one has burned out yet. Who knows how long they were in there before i bought the truck. (i got it the day the lady traded it in too)

What are you guys doing to avoid blinding people?

when I first installed a set in my honda I had a lot of people high beeming me so I pointed them down.

Anyone have the same issue ?

Did the ones for your Honda have the Casper shields?

The ones from DDM should. Make sure you install those.

I would also re-aim your lights. Most people have to aim them down a little.

to be honest they were a cheap ebay set, So they most likely didnt.

Glad I went with DDM this time.

Put mine in a few weeks back.

FYI, in order to get the bulbs to lock into the housing (if you are still using stock) I had to cut a few chips out of the 'weather cover' or in order to push the HID in all the way...you will see what I mean when you try to put it in. I zip tied the boxes to existing stuff under the hood. I also had to run the ground from the passenger side HID to the battery b/c I didn't have anything to ground it too on that side...so I just ran it back over and wire tied it with the other wires randomly going in front of the engine (watch out for the radiator fan!!..haha).

Overall the lights work well. I have been bright-lighted once and that was by a miata that was probably staring directly into them. I will post some pics next week...been swamped lately.

Also, you can download the directions off of DDM's site...super easy. Took me less than an hour to do everything...first time to do anything like this.

Disable the DRL's and when you do make sure it is the correct wire...there are 2 yellow/black wires...I mentioned it in the thread below I think.

Shields?

the cutoff seems adequate...haven't been getting brightlighted. There is a small triangle about 20 feet out directly in the middle that doesn't seem to get light...but other than that it is fine. Brights are not a ton brighter than the dims I don't think.
 
Yes, they had the shield.....looks fine I guess....you can't see the shields...I think the bulb was pointed up when I put them in...hopefully that is the correct way...haha.
 
So I think i am going to install them right now.. Hopefully I have no issues

Kinda confused about how to get the headlights out.. I feel re****ed

Headlights on the 4runner? No need to take them out. Just pull the black "weather proofing" piece off and you should see the clip for the bulb.
 
yup just realized i got the wrong bulbs. I got H7s instead of H4s any way to convert them?

or does autozone sell H4 HID bulbs?

doh! dude that sucks! im not sure if there is any way to get those rigged in there?? For the times i've ever been to autozone they never had any HID's that i know of. maybe they have them behind the counter or try Pep Boys? they have all kinds of goodies there. or... you can always check out the stealership i know they run HID's in a couple of their cars it would imagine its the same H4bulb?? good luck though!
 
There might be a H7 to H4 adaptor. If not just order a new set of bulbs from DDM or see if you can exchange them.

A new pair of bulbs is only $12.50.
 
luckily I have another car I can use them on so I am not too upset about it

Currently installing the 5000k in my R32 with OEM rep projector housings
 
Clemsonfan - the DDM instructions on the website give a really good description and great pix of the install of the bulbs. And yeah the metal shields/guards are there to hold the bulbs in the housings.
I have all the gear sitting on my work bench begging to be installed!
gonna pick up a fuse block for under the hood to rewire some stuff when I do the install.
