HID Lights. Yes or No?

They are definitely different and I'm still getting used to them. Right after I installed them Friday evening, I drove around the neighborhood and wasn't too impressed... I think I was expecting a huge difference. Last night I was out and they seemed much better... do these bulbs "burn in" or "warm up" after the first few uses?

this is normal. i have the 6000K low beams and they flicker when you turn them on and reach their full brightness in about 10 seconds. i read a little on them and apparently the gases inside need to warm up a little bit before they can be the brightest. also, these bulbs/kits have a safety feature that makes it so they don't blow up if you turn them on which allows them to warm up slowly. that is why these kits have a warning which says to avoid turning them off and on

Has anyone put hids on there highbeams now my highbeams look dull lol
 
Just put my 5000k HIDs from ddmtuning in my 4runner this weekend. They are definitely bluer than I thought they would be. I like them a lot and they were pretty simple to install. I would suggest doing it if you feel like upgrading your head lights. Just as an FYI it took 15 days to be delivered (to Wisconsin) from the time I put the order in. So order them before you have one head light out like me.
 
That's funny Shooter. I'm in WI as well. I can confirm the roughly 15 day wait as mine are scheduled to arrive today. I plan on installing them over the holiday.
 
YES. I'm getting some on mine soon. I drive another car that has them, and getting back into the 4R makes me feel blind sometimes, and I used to think my lights were bright.

They talk about the "slim ballasts" being fully digital, but I don't see that mentioned on the Raptor, full-size ballasts. During the install, I was glad that I had the smaller ballast... I'm not sure how much bigger the full-size ones are, but the small ones mount right up on the inside of the fender with double-sided tape.
 
I actually spoke with them before I ordered my kit and they said that the slim ballast are still the same "power wise" when compared to the Raptors. He recommended the slim ballasts because they are a bit smaller than the normal ones and will help with any fitting issues in the engine bay, especially if it is already tight.
You can use zip ties and/or velcro/double-sided tape to secure the ballasts.

And yes, do NOT turn them on/off frequently (in a short period of time) hence why they do not recommend doing HIDs for brights as many people "flash" their lights often.

I've had mine in since last Friday evening and they seem to be getting better every night! When I first drove with them, I thought that they weren't as bright as the halogens and figured that I would take them out. Well, after running them now for five evenings, they have gotten much better!! I'll be installing my 3000k fogs on Thursday!

They are getting better and I am getting more used to them. I really like them and would definitely recommend them. I would have gone with the 4500k to get a little less blue in them. Have fun with the 3000k in the fogs, those will look really nice.

They should get a bit whiter over the next few days... mine have!
 
I thought the same thing also they looked brighter however...
I also found out the 4000 35watt if you hook up the 55watt ballast it is 5000
for some reason I thought the smaller ballasts were 55 watt so I had the 55watt on the fogs and 35 watts for head lights
I was wondering why I had a very white light in front of my truck!
now it is hooked up right. guess I should of taken my time not rushed the install :moping:
 
Hello guys,

From searching around I have found some post that say both the low beam headlights and the fog lights are 9006. Can anybody confirm? other post say they are H11.

The 2003-2005 models use 9006 in both the low beam and the fog lamps.

The 2006-2009 models use H11 as the low beam but continued using 9006 for the fogs.

I just finished up installing HID kits on both the lows and fogs and am in the process of doing a detailed write up. Can't wait to get out there and aim them properly and get the "after" pics. :hungry: If anyone is contemplating purchasing HIDs soon and wants an advance peek at the write up and can do a proof read let me know via PM.

with all the time u have, u should do a retro like me, and then do a step by step write up, mine was kinda partial for the lexus rx-afs retro i did to my 07.
 
It seems that retrofits are not popular among 4th gen owners as google shows only few projects.
I am going to retrofit fx-r projectors into my 04. Think it's a better way.
 
Retrofits are always a better option and safer for both you and oncoming traffic as opposed to pnp. I did a retro a year or two ago with that exact projector and love it.
 
Where's a good place to mount the ballast for the fog lights? I was thinking that I could tape a ballast to the inside of each of the fog light housing. Every where else seems like it would be tough to get at the connections.
 
I cant exactly help you out since i have a 3rd gen but i just placed mine behind my headlights. they sit nice and don't move around. That way I can get to the connections no problem and also move them around if needed. I didn't care much for permanently mounting them.
