so im planning to get some hid for my 02 4runner i know what color stuff i want but i just dont get what is the h1,h3, h7 and so on, can anyone explain what they stand for?

Yes it is the typeof bulb I believe yours is gonna be an H4 bulb
Your correct it is a H4 bulb. I have a 10,000k set in my 98 4runner

In my opinion 10,000K is way too high. You will lose a lot of light.
I would stick with 4,300-6,000K.

I agree with Clemson, 10k is overkill and obnoxious.
I think most of us run between 4k-6k hi/lo kits and for the stock housings, that is perfect without being an a-hole to other drivers.

i didnt say anything about what color i was getting in my post, i was only trying to find out what was the h1 h2 h3 stand for thats all
So when you say hi/lo combo kits, are you saying that when you use your hi beams the brightness doesn't change? Or it does? I know the bulb moves inside the housing, so I am assuming it gets brighter.
I didn't realize how cheap the DDM kits were. I might shoot for a 5000 or 6000k 35watt kit.
Edit: Never mind, I see now that the Hi/Lo kits come with a relay harness. I suppose the only other question is whether or not the standard 45.00 kit is plug and play with the 4Runner or do we need the HID harness, error code eliminator (I assume not), or adaptor cables?

HID stands for high intensity discharge.
durrell- I would definitely get the Hi/Lo kit. As you know it comes with the relay harness which alone is worth the extra money. It also has the shields around the bulbs which should be mandatory when installing HIDs in our housings.

Yeah, I went with the Hi/Lo kit in 5000k. Should be here tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the help.

No problem. Post some pictures when you get them installed. We don't have many pictures of HIDs in '96-98 housings.

My HID's arrive tomorrow too! Hopefully I'll plug them in tomorrow... pics after. 35w 5000k hi/lo
Will do. Gonna hope they're bright enough, and if not, possibly buy some 99-02 housings.
