Has anyone ever tried one of these things?

Or am I just wasting my time unless I go with a proper HID projector retrofit using a high end OEM projector?

My 4th Gen headlight housing is in bad shape... and even after buffing the halogen lighting is dismal.

What have you guys done to improve the headlights? Any picts?

I'd be interested in this too. I'm really hesitant to try and retro my 03 headlights because they are the only ones I have haha. Considering getting some 06 headlights and going from there.. But I'd be interested to know how these headlights look. They come with a warranty at least.

I almost jumped on the 2006-2009 OEM housings... but after some reading they were never designed to work with HID bulbs...

If the beam shots look good enough I would consider it, but its hard to find some good picts.

I really don't want to be "that guy" on the road, creating problems for other drivers.

I have a 2004, and the 2003-2005 headlights are terrible... I don't even want to retrofit a high end OEM projector into that housing with a hood projector because the front lens is in really bad shape. The work/process also looks really involved.

Yeah that's basically where I'm sitting. I know the 06 projector isn't intended for HID's and but I'm kind of poor. I was thinking of just getting them and then trying to retrofit later. My technical skills are pretty bad but I guess it would be good practice.

I did the following recently:

1) Got new OEM headlights (there was an online coupon at the time)
2) Already had the projector and other hardware, so sent this and the new headlights to a retrofitter (I don't have enough know-how, tools, time, etc to do this myself).
3) Bought a pair of aftermarket fleabay headlights for "down-time". Cost me something like $75 IIRC. Brand new, but build quality and beam were abysmal.
4) Waited 1-2 weeks until newly retrofitted lights came and installed them
5) Cleaned up, repackaged and sold fleabay lights. Didn't loose much money.

A few things I've picked up: If you have 03-05 headlights, you CAN fit the 06-09 headlights, but it will be expensive as you have other parts to replace (small body colored garnish under the light). Even then, you have (some don't care) to deal with a gap between the grille and headlights (unless of course, you also replace the grille, but I haven't seen anyone who has done so). I've seen members install HIDs in their 06-09 lights and the cut off isn't bad at all.

Cheaper and probably the best: Get your 03-05 headlights and have them retrofitted with HID projectors. If your current lights are yellowed/weather/etc AND restoring them doesn't do much, then get new (I would recommend OEM) headlights and retrofit them. Doing this will ensure you retros will last.

If you know how to work with dremel - just re-trofit the set. 03-05 headlights are so easy to work with! You can mount literally any OEM projector with minimum modifications if you handy, halos or LED strip (which I plan to add next). When it comes to on-road lighting performance, nothing comes close to high-end OEM projectors. You will be disappointed with output and quality of headlights in your link.

Parts:
1) Projector. Pick one. Our headlights are so big, any one will fit. I have bixenon, but honestly you will use the hi-beam sparingly.
2) HID "bulb". Again, pick one. Preferably 4300K (stock). Morimotos have pretty decent bang for the buck.
3) Wire Harness. (relays included)
4) Ballast. Morimotos have good ones, although I use Densos (I pot them, but that's a different story).
5) Clear lens (usually included with the project with TRS (RetrofitSource))
6) IF you do it yourself: epoxy and sealant (look it up at TRS)

Labor:
About $800-1K for both of them. This is why most do it themselves.

Can't find the link. But most just do the headlights. If a couple details don't bother you, you'll be fine. I would avoid this option and retro-fit the 03-05 headlights.

not sure which is better, guess the hid is about 20% better, my main gripe is the halos are not bright!...allmost invisible in daylight,

i intend to open it up and install the superbright halos i bought from lightwurkz

I need to replace both headlights. I need to some reviews on the after market projectors like the one's on CARID. Also, another option I am looking at is just getting a pair of 2006 projector headlights. Has anyone installed these on a pre-2006?

I've searched the forum and read the threads but I still can't determine what is junk and what is not.

Any review or input regarding replacing my headlights is appreciated.

I recently saw on one of the Facebook groups where one guy was using just the projector housing (bought off Amazon) with new LED bulbs & really like them, saying HIDs are old tech lol. I dunno what to try out now.

Sorry to bump an old thread, just curious if anyone has tried fitting new projectors into these Spec D headlights?

Bought a pair and have been running them for a year, and now all of a sudden the driver low beam projector crapped out on me. Thought it was the H1 bulb, so I switched the low and high beam bulbs, and that did nothing. So now I’m stuck between buying new housings, and doing a retrofit, or seeing if I can make a new projector fit into these current ones (something that is good quality).
