Hidden Falls - November 26th/27th...

I wanted to gauge interested on another Austin/HF meet-up the weekend after thanksgiving. I was thinking about driving down the 26th and camping overnight for some mild wheeling Sunday the 27th.

Weather looks good (so far) for the next two weeks, so this would be a good trip for those of us who missed out last weekend.

Disclaimer: I've driven several trails at HF in a buddy's vehicle, and am pretty confident in my own abilities and limits in my vehicle, but am not volunteering as a trail lead or guide. Hopefully someone who has a lot more experience can show up and help those that want to go but need some help.

I'm off for a week starting the 25th. I'm 99% sure I can make it. MAY be able to convince a friend or two with 4Rs to come out with me as well.
 
What time are you going Friday? I MIGHT have that day off. I am not volunteering as a guide but I can if no one else is willing. It's just easy to get on harder trails there and I don't want to be the reason for unwanted body damage.

It's a Sat/Sun trip. I have something I'm supposed to do that Saturday, but I could skip it to go get dirty!

The family and I were planning to head out there that same weekend to camp. My birthday is that weekend and my initial desire to head out to Big Bend just isn't going to work with it being Thanksgiving weekend and all so we thought we may check out HF for the first time.

My FoRunna is stock so I imagine I will be quite limited in what I can do there. That being said, we have wanted to check it out for a while and were just looking for a fun camping trip with some mild driving. And I hear there is a gun range.

Keep me posted as to details, as it stands we intend to be there either way.
 
I potentially can join you. I need to check few things before confirming. I been in HF few times but mostly during organized events (Fallout)

My 4Runner is stock as well and I had a blast out there. There is plenty to do in a stock 4Runner. I saw that gun range too. I need to ask about that next time.

That is good to know. I have been curious if it would be very much fun in a stock ride but have been unable to find much info in that regard. Hopefully we see y'all out there.

Great thread. And those pics are amazing. I will admit though that some of the pre-trip warnings have given rise to a hesitation I had not had. And in light of your post trip advice, I hope some of you can show as I neither have a winch or know the trails.
 
Yeah our group was fortunate to have two guys who had been there before. I think if I had gone on my own I would not have attempted 3/4 of what we did. Not sure if I can make it for your meet but I'll check back

I probably can't make it out there that weekend..

[MENTION=809]fattire[/MENTION] and myself both have a bunch of experience there with our 5th gens. It's constantly changing, so it requires some scouting to put together a route that will work for stock vehicles. You can do some pretty fun stuff without any damage if you pick the right trails and lines. But it is constantly changing... so it can be frustrating if you have high expectations and no guide.

Maybe Fattire and myself could do a weekend in December and guide a pretty big group or two.

If you do attempt to hit it on your own... Just use common sense ask for advice from the people out there. Bring along basic recovery gear (a tow strap and a few shackles is all you should really need) Everyone is pretty friendly (although there are occasionally those guys.... that want to see you tear up your nice shiny truck...)

I'd be interested in something in December. Keep us informed if this materializes.
 
Once again, I'm working that Saturday night into Sunday morning so most like cannot go.... As [MENTION=106176]wfo9[/MENTION] said, I would probably be down for December as I'm off weekends next month. I've never been to Hidden Falls before and would like to check it out.

Thanks for the tag @wfo9. I definitely cannot make the weekend after Thanksgiving. I've got family stuff going on Friday night into Saturday morning and then I have to leave for Las Vegas on Sunday for a work trip.

A weekend in December would be good to get something going though.
 
Seems like there's at least a few people interested.

Looks like there's a little rain popping up between now in then. I've already promised the GF camping, so weather permitting, I still plan on being out there the 26th to set up camp.

I did confirm, although the guy didn't really give off the vibe that he remembered next weekend was Thanksgiving.

If anyone else wants to call to double-check, or I'm pretty sure someone here said they volunteer out there, but I can't find the post now.
