Yesterday I'm driving along with the sun coming in the car from the driver's window. So I pull the sun visor across to block the sun. Of course the sun is entering just past the end of the visor. So, I was wondering why they didn't have those little slide out extensions to provide more shade protection. I get home and while putting the visor back into the tucked-up position I notice the little eye lock doesn't line up (it's about an inch off). I push the visor back into position and pop it into the parked position. I'm thinking to myself "Shit I'm gonna have to have the stealer replace the visor, what a pain in the ass". As I'm walking up the stairs it dawned on me that Toyota would not let a defective visor slip through like that, maybe it is supposed slid to give better shade coverage. Sure enough both visors slide about 8" to provide shade all the way to the middle pillar. I figure I better post this because I

That must be one of those Sport/Limited upgrades. My SR5 has the slide out extensions at the end of the visors. :)
 
Hmm, must be an 05 thing. Mine has the plastic slide outs, but doesnt extend like yours in the picture. But then toybox posted his did this and he has an 03. Did they change it for a year then go back? Doesnt really matter, blocks the sun either way.
 
Did you also know there is a smaller compartment inside the glovebox? If you open it, there is another up higher. It was about a year before I even realized it was there.

It seems I remember alot of discussion on these for the '03 and '04's. Toyota couldn't make up there mind or something because it seems that some Sports for those years got the lighted vanity mirrors (which slide) and some got the plain version.
 
I thought the Visors with lighted vanity mirrors didn't have space inside the visor to conceal the plastic sliders, that's why they have the whole visor slide across. The combination of the two visors (the visor with the slide out and the mini-visor above it) works well... I've been using this since I got the car. GMC has this feature as well... Very nice on long road trips in the sun.
 
It was only last week that I discovered the pull-out tray in the pull down rear seat armrest/cupholder unit. I was pulling out the cup holder unit a little harder than usual, and sure enough, there was the tray. I've used that fold down cup holder almost daily (I take my lunch breaks in my 4R and listen to the radio while eating lunch in the back seat), and here I discover the tray almost a year after I got the 4R.
 
I think the first car with this feature was
a 1936 Ford.

Somehow in recent years it has been forgotten.

I use this feature all the time.

Thanks Koz for the info. I just went out to check. Sure enough it does extend out. I may never have noticed that.
 
It's too bad that the salesman didn't, or didn't know how to, show you all these little things before you bought the vehicle, huh? He should've shown you these things while you were comparing vehicles...all other things being equal, they add up and might just tip the scale his way.
 
Hey, that's pretty neat! I don't have it, I have the slide out ones. I'm guessing it has something to do with the lighted vanity mirrors.
 
Nice! I didn't know about that either! Great find, it is definately the little things that make it so great! I had no idea about the second compartment in the glovebox either until I stumbled on a thread here at T4R. Keep em comin' ;):.
 
I found that out last week.. lol.. and yes.. my 03 extends out like that too. :D I haven't used this feature yet... but i'm sure I will someday..

That compartment is where I keep my Insurance Card & registration. I get this call, one day from my wife, who has been pulled over for speeding. She yells at me because she cannot find the cards and states that the Trouper has threatened to have the T4R towed if she does not produce the documents. I tell her, over the Cell phone, to look in the secret glove box compartment for these. In a very loud voice she yells "WHAT SECRET COMPARTMENT". :eek:
However, love the fact that we have four piston caliper front brakes. It took almost two years to realize that.
