A short run I did with a modified TJ earlier in May. A nice little stream crossing followed by large moguls.

That water looke kinda deep. I mean, it came up to the rear bumper. SO, let me ask this. How do you prevent water from coming into the exhaust pipe, i mean besides from slamming the gas?

chunderboy-The pic shows the "shallow" part of the crossing. It was deeper by about a foot at the deepest point. As long as the vehicle is running, water won't get into the exhaust. The key is before you do a crossing like this walk it to see what you're getting into. Then move slowly across... I walked the crossing and ended up soaking wet. Nothing like 4wheeling in your underwear-no kidding! Sorry for the mental picture...

Take a look at the picture again. I followed the right side for about 40-50 feet and then took a hard left (in front of the trees) where there was a good sized rut and boulder. Everything was nice and easy until the rut and boulder. A little gas was needed at that point to pull my carcass out of the water. I've guided white water in the past and I honestly would rate the crossing class 1 white water. It was nuts!

Crossing water in a situation like this you want to go slow. When crossing water I typically go slow as to not get water in places it's not meant to be. Not to mention there are a lot of unknowns just under the surface.

what kind of basket is that on your 4runner? how much? where did you get it? and are you just using the factory roof rack to keep it on?

It's an older Yakima basket attached to the factory rails. Not sure if they're made anymore.
