HID's

Well, another day goes by with no kit arriving, nor did I receive a reply from Xenon Depot's technical staff. As I said before I have been sending them e-mails since last week because the order number they gave me doesn't work.........

They are one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. I will bet that they haven't even shipped it yet. I can't believe they are allowed to sponsor this forum, it's just promoting a company that rips people off. I also found it very convenient that during their "limited staff" period, that not a single person can be in charge of phone calls, so I can't get ahold of a representative to talk to.

Which kid did you order if you don't mind me asking?

They're going to get back to you saying, "Those are on backorder. We will get them to you same day delivery once our shipment arrives." LOL

I ordered the H11 4300K Kit. They usually sell out pretty fast so I asked them if they were in stock and they said yes, so I ordered one. I received an e-mail monday saying that they shipped it, but the tracking number they gave me isn't valid, and now I am at the point that I left off at in my last post.

Like Good Times, I've ordered from XD twice for myself personally and once for someone else. Everytime I got the kit within a week and a positive experience. I will buy from them again when the need arises.

If there was anything negative about XD is they don't combine shipping, full pop for each kit, $25. Because it's shipped international, I'm not sure if there are any holdups with customs.

Furthermore, DHL and I believe all couriers recycle their tracking numbers. I had that problem when I was first assigned a tracking number and it had the package going to Washington.

There is a reason why plug & play HID kits are illegal. And cut-off line isn't the only issue. Once you see the difference between a properly set up system and your crappy PNP kit, you will understand. Money wasted is buying a system that only blinds others and puts out crappy light patterns.

I agree 100%. I tried a plug-n-play HID kit on my '04 (non-projector headlights) and it was horrible! Light scattered everywhere but where it should have been.... Some of these guys think just because they have projectors, they will not have the same type of issues, but what they fail to realize is that their projectors are set up for halogen bulbs, which have a different location than HID capsules. Since they are not identical, the light output isn't optimized for the HID capsule.

Dude... he has a 2007 4Runner, they come stock with projector headlights, there's no need to do a retrofit. :bash:

Actually you're wrong. Halogen projectors still are not on par with true HID Projectors. Halogen projectors are better than normal halogen reflector assemblies, but they still were not designed for a HID setup.:headslap:

Honestly if you don't like how they've treated you, just cancel your order and move on. Buy from somewhere else... As you can see numerous people have posted with good results dealing with them so they aren't all bad.

one thing that is good with cheap rebased kits for our stock projector housing is that you can take off the hids when every you want.
i ordered from xenonking.com they are horrible hids. i thought i was saving money but it bit me in the ass. 1 year warranty. mine broke 1 year and 3 days.
dont waste your money on cheap kits.

Just because you've tried HIDs on your "04" which you already stated that they're definately not a projector setup, how would you know first hand that the light output from the 06+ projectors will have, "the same type of issues" as you had? I'm just curious... because my light output is fine. Sure we all know the 4R projectors are designed for halogen bulbs, but who said they will not be sufficient with slight modification?

If you've never seen a properly modded (blocked squirrel finders) 06+ projector matched with a good HID kit in real life, your post is irrelevant.

Sorry to tell you guys, but any HID kit that doesn't come stock from the factory is illegal, retrofitted or not.

And if you would ever try to do a little modifications to the squirrel finders you will find that it's easy to cut off the glare. You have glare with your halogen headlights too, does that bother you also????? Or is it only debatable when it's glare from HID's ??

I swear people on here either cannot read or don't bother to read. Adjusting the cutoff point is only a PART of the problem. You still have hot spots, which can still blind the crap out of people. You've got yourself a crappy light pattern, which looks like crap. You just installed some cheap ricey product in your 4Runner. And on and on. I'm sure passenger cars do get some glare from my halogen headlights, but on HID's, the intensity is increased by +300%!!! You're a fool if you're even trying to compare the glare from HID's to Halogens. :bash:

And of course, retrofitting is not legal. This is why I don't have HID's. But if you're going to do it, at least install some projectors that come on LEGALLY-HID'ed cars. There are numerous pictures of HID kits in Halogen projector housing and guess what? THEY LOOK LIKE PUKE! Honestly, if you can't tell the difference between the two, you need your eyes checked.

Lastly, do you guys really NEED HID's? I don't get what all of this HID craze is all about. Sure, when I had HID's (stock, BTW), it did look pretty cool. But did it help significantly? No. I'm just fine with my halogens.

There's always glare from all headlights, no matter what. But the glare from putting an HID kit in a vehicle with refractor headlights is much different than the glare that happens with standard bubls in the same headlights. I think the point here is that even the '06 and newer projector headlights were originally intended to work with standard bulbs, so using a HID capsule will still cause more glare than would have otherwise been caused by the standard bulbs.

I don't know much about the lighting on the 3rd gen, but I will tell you that the standard headlights on my '04 (before they came out with the projectors, obviously) are very good. Maybe it's the design of the headlight housings, or maybe not, but either way I honestly think that they are among the best headlights of any car I've owned, including my old Acura that had OEM HIDs.

pnut and Even Steven,

If you guys have no personal (tangible) experience with the 06+ projector, your opinions are meaningless. Now if you've got some proof, please do show me.

Just because you read HIDplanet.com all day don't make you an expert on HIDs. You don't even have HID experience for the 4R projectors! :bash:

We all know any aftermarket HID installations are illegal, yes! Doe's that mean that we can't install them in a way that the light output comes out better than stock halogens? NO! Anyone can install them weather you like it or not. As long as the squirrel finders are modded.

About the squirrel finders: if you look head on to a stock 06+ (halogen) light, I bet you it has 10 times more glare than any other car with halogens. This is mearly bad design and is useless. I have less glare now with the HIDs installed w/ S. finders modded.

A good friend of mine has an '06 4Runner, and we tried out my kit in his 4Runner before I returned my HIDs. At the time we didn't realize it, but it's not a direct swap because the '06 uses a different base for its bulbs, so we just temporarily rigged them up to get an idea on how they would perform with his projectors.

And guess what? Glare city. Now I'll admit that we didn't modify his squirrel finders (where did that stupid name come from, btw?), but nevertheless, it was still a worse pattern than the original bulbs. To this day, he still runs bulbs, but like me, he got himself HIRs, which are much better than the OEM bulbs.

There ya go man. Unless you've modded the squirrel finders appropriately and actually have a set of HIDs that actually fit, please don't post your opinions, because they have no merit.

Squirrel finders: permit low beam glare. That way hunters can spot a squirrel up a tree before he needs to turn on his highs. :awais: :biggrin2:

pnut and Even Steven,

Can you point out where the "hot spots" are for me on these photos of my light output? Please do tell.

Granted, they probably don't have the exact light output that a stock HID would permit, but this is 10X better than stock halogen and I'm happy with that for the amount of $$ I paid for them.

Alpha, how does the HID shine in the immediate vicinity in front of your 4runner? Or does your HID just shine far off in front?? My Sienna with OEM HIDS (reflector-based) shines bright and clear in the vicinity of the nose...it does not shine far off & high as your HID i think.

Disclaimer...i have no idea on this topic.
