High Beam Recommendations

Looking for recommendations on best replacement for high beam / drl. I'm looking for best performance overall - distance and brightness.

I've installed HID's for low beam and want to upgrade the stock high beams to optimize visibility.

In searching the forum, there's alot of LED vs Halogen, or topics of "I just got XYZ and cant wait to install..." but I didn't see many follow up reviews.

What would you recommend and why?

For High beams these are bright as hell:

To my knowledge, there is no drop in led bulb that functions as a DRL and high beam due to the PWM technology. In essence it'll function as high beam all the time, and that is annoying as hell. I did the DRL delete mod and then dropped in a high power led from TRS I think, it was a while back. Things may have changed as I tried this a couple years ago, but none of the good LED companies had figured out the PWM deal yet.

Even after all this, my low beam HIDs still blow away the LED high beam.
 
I've got the DDM LEDs and can vouch that they are extremely bright. They also function as my DRLs (half power).

the webpage makes a insane claim of 4000 lumens per bulb.. HIDs are around 3200 lumens.. and im a big believer that HIDs are still superior in output..

An HID properly used in a projector set up trumps LED in a reflector housing (like our stock high beam set up) any day of the week. However, I've never compared HID to LED with both being in projectors.

Do they flicker? That's the issue I had with the TRS LEDs I tried. They did shine at supposed half power, but there was an extremely high frequency pulse that about gave me a headache when I looked at them lol. I didn't want anybody keeling over at the wheel driving towards me so that's when I did the DRL delete mod.

Wow and no one on here has mentioned Xenon Depot 9005 extreme kit. Put them i my runner with the anti flicker drl modules and the are freakin bright as hell.
 
I did Xenon Depot high and low beams. I love them. Paired with my Baja Design Squadron R Pro driving combo in amber fog lamps makes me happy with my choices up front.
 
since I don't use my high beams enough to consider upgrading to LED's, so I stuck with regular halogen PIAA hyper yellow bulbs. My last set, lasted 18 years and counting (ended up selling my old car with them in it).

they serve 3 functions:

Pro's
1. work well in the fog
2. blind the snot out of bad drivers with a headache inducing yellow light / purple hue.
3. has a very distinctive, cool purple/yellow hue when the lighs are off that reflect in the housing
4. daytime driving lights still function

cons:
1. it ain't cheap.

The reason why you're not finding anything definitive is because there isn't a drop in solution that keeps all the stock functionality, because the HBs are also the DRLs.

The 9005 incandescent (halogen) swap is the only mod that keeps the functionality, but it doesn't give you the 5000k match of LEDs or HIDs.

There are no LED bulbs currently that will run at a lower brightness as DRLs and also function as HBs when needed- the "anti-flicker" (Canbus) modules run the DRLs as HBs. Meaning that without the module, your LED DRLs will flicker (in high beams brightness) and with it they will not flicker but they will be high beam brightness.

If you don't care about the DRLs you can do [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] 's "Disable DRLs / Keep Auto headlights" mod to the factory harness and just use the HBs as HBs.

Thanks! I will most likely go LED but follow the steps to disable DRL's as to not have them on full HB.

I never run DRL and don't like an auto headlight feature, so it's not an issue for me. I only notice it when I'm turning my lights on for the split second that it passes by the setting.

Those are discontinued and from the product page claims 4000 lumens. The replacement xtreme pro LEDs are only at 1750 lumens. 1750 is no brighter than normal 9005s. 9011 bulbs can put out 2300 lumens.

I would love to find a LED bulb that can put out as much light as HID's but so far there is nothing close.
