High beams fail after HID conversion??

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone experienced their high beams failing after installation of the XenonDepot HID conversion? I installed mine on Christmas and now the drivers side is out for DRL and Highs.

I've checked the fuses and they appear to be correctly intact.

I've had problems of the driver side always blowing a fuse. Gone through 2 in 7 months.. For highs, I had to switch the connector around. Try that as conversion kits are finicky at times. Mine both work now

are you asking about the high beams failing after a low beam HID conversion, or did you do HID high beams?

Those xenondepot kits are pretty inexpensively made and I question the quality control on them. That being said you might have to play around with the pins on the connector and definitely swap the bulbs left to right and see if the problem follows the bulb

For what it's worth, I removed one of those kits and installed retrofit projectors instead. I was tired of getting flashed by oncoming drivers who thought I had my brights on all the time

Update:

Well I pulled the high beam bulbs out and they are in tact and then switched positions. Now neither of them work... I pulled the fuses again and they are in tact as well... Guess I'll stop by the parts store tomorrow and see if I can pick up another set. I'd hate to have to remove the HID kit after only 3 days...

Little known fact.. 5th gen 4runners have the ability to sense the brightness of HID's, determine that high beams are obsolete, and disable them. Normal operating procedures - carry on.

I had a Kia Forte with a cheap HID kit in it and after a while, my car would start to do some crazy stuff. My transmission would try to up and down shift and it would go into "limp mode." I thought something was seriously ****ed with my car. Turns out, my ground wire on my HID's was damn near worn through. Those cheap HID kit's have really, really cheap connectors at the end of the wiring harness. We re-crimped every connection on the harness (properly this time). I am not any kind of engineer, but something about those ballasts occasionally sparking because the wire was coming out was wrecking havoc on my vehicle.

I've never had a single problem with my kit. I've been running it for 2.5 years now. Sorry! Electrical gremlins suck!

I have been running mine for almost a year and no problems on a 2016 Trail Prem. I do note that the low beams stay on when I select high though but this is OK as I get great near and far coverage on mountain roads.

All I had to do was swap out the high beams and everything was back to normal. It appears to have just been a fluke and burnt them out.
