High idle on cold start

When I first start my truck in the morning, or anytime when the motor is cold, the idle stays at about 1300-1200rpm and gradually goes down within a 3-4min. to its normal idle which is about 600rpm. I have no CEL but I was told to replace the coolant temp sensor first before heading to the idle solenoid. Any suggestions would be very helpful, Thanks!

check for vacuum leaks. I had this issue with my wife's and one of the hoses coming off the front left firewall was cracked...may give it a look around?

18 year later mine still does it.
Totally normal. You'll find on the coldest winter days, it'll be even longer til the rpm drops.
