High Miles, but looks great. Possible purchase help

Here's the link 1987 Toyota 4Runner
It's got pretty high miles, so I'm rather impressed at how the body looks, though there aren't really any great pictures. He's only asking 1500, but the best offer part is probably what I'd be taking advantage of. First post, currently a Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ owner but would love to join the 4runner club! Give me your thoughts, thanks.

Link doesn't work, but being a Minnesota rig, I would be looking closely at the frame and rear axle for rust. There will be some, but you want to make sure it is not eating all the way through the frame.

Alright, fixed the link, sorry about guys! I called the owner, he said the reason it's so clean is that it's from Hawaii originally and he bought it from an older gentleman who was the Hawaii owner. He said that the only mechanical concern he has is that it accelerates slowly. I instantly figured it was losing compression so may need a rebuild.

Are there other things on these 22RE engines that could cause slow acceleration? Also, can anyone point me to a write-up for doing a 5-speed swap? I searched and found a few threads but none were that helpful.

Like I said in your post on Toyota Nation, the high mileage means worn engine and possibly a clogged cat conv, which both could cause the slow acceleration.

And those fender flares still gotta go.

I guarnte the flares are covering the rust. mnpls is about 6 hours east of me. alot of the first gens in mn have had there frames fixed or are close to needing it.

Well, it was originally from Hawaii, so I suppose the salty air could cause the rust, but I'll make sure to check it very thoroughly for rust.

EDIT: Damn, looks like I've got some competition from that guy on Toyotanation. Kinda funny, actually.
