High Performance 5VZFE?

hey so I came across this today,

TOYOTA 3VZE 3.0L V6 ENGINE 7YEAR/70,000 MILE WARRANTY - $1,595.00 : Raptor Engines, 7 Year 70000 Mile Warranty


now before anyone jumps all over me that it's a 3.0L... I'm posting it because this is the first time I've found any engine builder who sells a upgraded Toyota engine. This just got me thinking if there are 3.4L engines out there pre build in the 230hp range?

if there was a builder out there selling warrantied 3.4s pushing 230hp this would be a great start over just buying a SC and bolting it up to my 150,000 mile 4Runner lol.

who knows maybe there's a reason I haven't found one.

why would you be worried about putting a supercharger on at 150k, there was a post about a guy just throwing one at at 300k

Twas i, 308k now and counting. But I think he's asking why there isn't a company building the 3.4 n/a to 230hp then imagine a SC on a already built 3.4.. mmm it's what I plan on doing but it's not as easy as that.
A n/a motor is a n/a motor putting boost into one isn't that great of a idea.
 
They also said mixing vodka and red bull isnt that great of an idea but look were we are now!!!

I would totaly charge my 4runner, if i had the option.

What I mean by my post is building a motor up for n/a power is totally different then building up for power adders such as turbo or sc. Cams are different pistons are different compression in general is different. There is much more.

Yep, that's totally it. It's not as easy as just bolting on a supercharger, Toyota made the 5VZ-FE the way it is so that it can. If you rebuild it with it and increase compression AND add a supercharger, I don't think the engine would last as long.

I remember over on Yotatech a few people bought the Raptor 3VZ-E engines and were happy. But there's no superchargers or turbos for the 3VZ-E so they had a market.

There's no performance-built 5VZ-FE that I've ever heard of though, and there is no market for one. The supercharger is a solid performance boost and doesn't require pulling the engine or rebuilding it. It's just not a viable product from a marketing perspective.

Unless your a gear head and want to try and accomplish a task lol. I'm on the search for a 4runner motor (better block then tacoma) and building it up for the SC but that's much later down the road. Other then that buying a low mile motor or a remand from a reputable company is the best option.
 
There are none because there is no market. Look up the tacoma guys. Some have built them. But nothing in demand for a high HP crate motor. Another reason is cost. Your not going to get much performance when building this motor and parts would be super expensive. If there was never a TRD supercharger option im sure others would have built up the motor a bit more than it has now. The trd supercharger made it so there is not market for high compression pistons or high performance quad cams (expensive as hell). Then you would have to do porting of head, oversized valves. Stuff that has thousands of dollors in just machine work to get a few horses.
 
Thanks for all the info! I've had many SC and turbo powered vehicles, but never done a SC on a high miled truck. I'm not surprised by you guys telling me there isn't really a market, especially with how dependable our 3.4 is. and since posting this thread I've read more on how hard SC can be when cams and valving are changed. Just the idea for a 40HP bump on a brand new motor then add a SC would be awesome. And I'm glad James responded that with 308k your truck is still going strong! I'll definitely be looking into a SC with more comfort knowing these trucks can handle it.
 
I will say that adding extra fuel does help a lot. But no ill effects with running it with none. 193k miles on mine, supercharger has been on for most of that. Still runs like a top! I recently checked my valve clearances and they were all PERFECT. Not a hint of burnt valves or nothing.
 
Hard to beat FI in terms of adding power. I'm currently in the 300-350 range with 10-12 psi on a completely stock internals 230k 3.4.

You can do it. Just remember 40hp jump on motor build going to cost you $1000 for custom high commission pistons $1000's on custom quad cams and $1000's on machine and port work.

Yeah doesn't seem worth it considering all of the down time my 4runner would have, plus it would cost more than a SC.

I'm planning a 2000 mile expedition with some buddies for this summer, so I'll start budgeting the SC cost and see if I can do it before I set out on my trip lol. they'd crap themselves if I showed up with a SC on top of everything I've started to do! Haha :heh:
 
LCE does this, but there aren't as many options for the 5VZ as there are for the older engines. LC Engineering Home Page

Although their website only lists 22R performance engines, I have their catalog somewhere around here and I remember it having many more options for complete engines. I know there wasn't a performance 5VZ offered, but the catalog had a lot of performance parts for them.

They used to have high(er) performance 5VZ-FE long blocks for sale, but I don't see them listed now.

They could probably still be convinced to build to order, though.

Yeah, I was pretty sure I remember digging through for 5VZ options, and most things needed were offered. I just scrolled through their videos and about 3/4 of the way down they have a 5VZ race motor video.

Not really my cup of tea though. I drive like a great grandfather's ancestor and I like my engine just the way it is. I'll probably go through a 22R if I want a toy in the future.

Yea SC is the way to go. Usually when people build up motors like this or 4 cylinders its to run high HP on a turbo or nitrous. You just cant get the performance from these like you can say on an N/A v8. Im having a buddy build me a motor that can handle up too 1000hp on my talon build, but without a huge power adder it would probably only lay down 220hp. So if you built out the 3.4l it would need some huge turbo to be worth it.
