High Tech needs your help to fight breast cancer

Bobby, anyone that knows you, and has experienced your benevolence, would never doubt you, or attempt to redirect or question your intentions to a cause. There are plenty of organizations that are top heavy, and I'm sure that the list is long.

That being said, I (and I'm sure many others here, have in the past, and continue to) admire you for the many good things you do for this group. You and High Tech have contributed much to this 5th Gen section...and it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

I would not veer from your course, you have absolutely nothing to prove to us, and especially nothing to prove to someone with as much tact as an unflushed toilet. Don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch.

Duc - thanks for doing this! I lost my mother to breast cancer so it's nice to see stuff like this.

On a side note, Komen, while popular, isn't the most efficient use of donations. Only 23% goes to funding research http://ww5.komen.org/uploadedImages/Content/Donate/komen-graph.jpg

Again, not criticizing - you mean to help, and that counts more than anything!

It looks like I'm a little late to the shoot out between Lima and Ryan. I definitely didn't know this thread was going to go that way. Thanks to the guys that have my back. But Ryan did have some good points but maybe didn't go about it in the most polite way.

So, I'm going to do something with Ryan's frustration at Susan G Komen's Foundation. We will continue our Facebook pumpkin contest as scheduled. I can't/shouldn't change who we give to in the middle of the contest.

In the very near future, High Tech will have another fundraiser to help someone in the community out. It won't necessarily be for colon cancer (which Ryan is really fond of). But, we will search our local community for a family with a child in need. Maybe that child is battling their own form of cancer, or lukemia, or maybe they lost their house to a fire. Anyway, I will see that we (High Tech and T4R) do something that will matter to just one family or child.

If anyone has a suggestion to who we should do this for, I'm open.

Great attitude. Although I share Ryan's thoughts on Susan G Komen's business and do not agree with their political involvement (pulling funding for Planned Parenthood), he could have been a little more polite about his thoughts.

I am not a facebooker, so no likes, but I commend Duc for his giving and humble response to Ryan!

I recommend you take a look at Ronald McDonald House Charities for an alternative charity to give your money. I have not looked into their financials or done a lot of research on the group. But I have seen their local house next to the children's hospital here and they have a good thing going to help support children and their families that are admitted at the hospital. For some of the kids, the hospital is their second home and are there for long durations. It is tough to see in person, my heart goes out to the families.

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely look into that.

You guys won't believe what comes up when you google 'families that need help in Chantilly, VA (where our shop is). It's not that easy to find a 'local' charity. I've considered splitting the Toys for Tots collection with them and a local children's hospital. But I have to check if there are rules against that (being that we are a drop off location).

Thanks to everyone that could participate on our little "contest". We managed to get about $700 in likes on all of our pumpkins.

Thank you to all that have contributed to this thread. Thanks to Ryan, who raised awareness for myself about the Komen Foundation.

I have gotten with our Toys for Tots contact and was informed that we can distribute all or some of the toys that are given to us. In light of this information, High Tech will be splitting the toys to Toys for Tots and our local Children's Hospital. This is so that we can help 'first hand' to those children in our immediate community. It will be great to actually see the children's faces when they receive these toys. I will try and get a thread started when this all comes about.

A special THANK YOU to those of you that I had the pleasure of meeting face to face during the Antman Camp Out. I know many of you contributed to our 'toy fund' during the meet. Thanks for getting our pile of toys started!
