I have noticed the throttle lag as well when passing on the highway. Shifting into 4th sounds like a great idea, I will have to remember to do that in the future. I used 4th while towing a loaded uhaul trailer (5x8) through the Smoky Mnts last month and was easily able to pass anyone while going up the steepest grade. FYI, I changed the plugs before that trip, made no difference in performace that I could tell.
