Details on your UN 4Runner please! You're the first guy on here with one and they are one of the oddest factory specs.
The UN Runners are base models when it comes to the options they have. The interior features...uh radio, AC, grey cloth, no tonneau cover. Exterior - second facelift, power/heated mirrors, the 056 paint code, non-tinted windows, no ABS, heavy heavy heavy duty rear hitch for hauling I don't know...train carts! It doesn't even have check engine light!!!
Power train is where it compensates for all the SR5 missing features. The rear diff is regular 3.9 fgr sometimes with LSD, the transfer is vf2a part time and no ADD(electric or vacuum) on the front diff, the transmission is R150F, and the engine is the 1KZ-T. The engine is different from the civil version, the 1KZ-TE, in that it is purely mechanical aside from the electrical fuel valve.
Toyota builds these 4Runners and also the 70, 80, 90, 100, 120, 150 series UN Land Cruisers to withstand harsh conditions where democracy still has not set foot. Usually, as it was in Kosovo, there are no paved roads most of the time, and if there are (today they have much more), they are equivalent to off-road conditions, just like quite a bit of roads in suburban Bulgaria.
The air filter for this engine is washable and does not require changing, only cleaning from time to time.
It has no fuel pump in the tank, and it has a manual pump in the engine bay in case you need to feed fuel to the injection pump.
The wiring harness running along the body is minimal. Literary like two wires!!!
Ive upgraded many parts on mine to make it safer like changing the vf3am multi-mode transfer with electric ADD on the front diff, added a rear locking 3.9fgr diff. and many cab options like the field monitor, rear reclining seats, tonneau cover, tinted windows.
Economically, I've noticed that the engine is statically economical, meaning that it doesn't matter if you drive city or highway, or empty or full with cargo and people, the mpg is the pretty much the same, around 28mpg. Economy varies only from the fuel quality that you use. Max Ive gotten is somewhere around 35mpg which is too good. But hey prices here in Bulgaria as of today are around $5.35/gl.
I've ran it on transformer oil instead of diesel a few times. It runs fine. If you find perfect quality unused cooking oil with no water in it, it will also run fine. Dont ask how I know.
Other than that, the UN Runners are the same as any other.
Few weeks ago I took out driver's side shock absorber and noticed that it is the longest one installed. On the different years and according to the markets, Toyota install different lengths. The UN ones are the longest.
Other interesting fact is that the UN Runners are only available in the same configuration (mechanical diesel) in South America under the alias Hilux SW4.
They include a third row seat which is not really something special as only small children can fit it and takes quite a bit of space in the cargo area.
Helpful links that I use for searching specific market features is
toyotamarket.ru. It is the same as the popular
http://www.toyodiy.com, but it has the exploded diagrams and tables with quantity and part numbers.
Other very good thing is that the frame is serialized, but the body is not. Mine has some little rust here and there, but if I were to change the body, all it takes is to transfer everything on the new body and put it on the old frame.
Which I think is something i might get to doing in the not so near future. I hope I find one with moon roof and ABS/VSC...
Other than that, I am not sure what else there is as good as the 4Runner. Maybe the new one in a special configuration...manual gear box, diesel engine, all safety options.
Here is a link to the car if you need something more info let me know.
