holy fix-it ticket Batman!

thats what i was thinking... I've been trying to find someone to go to. When i go in to get my tint checked, I'm gonna talk to them about it.

I have the Morimoto Projectors with a D2S bulb BTW. I'm just trying to figure out how to tell them that I built them without telling them that I built them. I know they would pass an inspection with flying colors if i can just find a place to do it. I mean the cutoff is right below the rear window of 99% of the cars a pull up on, I've never been flashed for having too bright of lights. There has got to be a way around this.
 
i like the panties idea better, but no there are no Halo's, multiple people tell me they look OEM and guess what people??

So im gonna feel like a total ass now. I took my tint off today :cry2: it sucks beyond sucking. I feel the sun just cancering away at my skin. not happy at all about that.

Anyway i went in to the police station to get things looked at and OMG i met the coolest cop in the world. When he looked at my violations he laughed and asked if i really got pulled over just for that. we talked for a bit, and i started to explain to him how the retrofit works and the temperature of the different HID's he told me as long as they aren't blue they should be good. I turned them on, let them warm up and he told me they are fine, approved everything and i think we're good to go!

So at this time mostly because of the time i have to put into my truck to take the headlights and wires along with everything else out, i wont be selling them for now. Now if i get pulled over again then I might be. but i do apologize for getting everyone excited.

PG cops I'm guessing? I can't imagine UHP being cool like that. Who was it you talked to?
 
Can you just keep the info you got today in your truck? That way if you're pulled over again, you have proof that your lights have been approved.

what projectors are you using? are the from another vehicle like say acura, mercedes, bmw, lexus? if so they will be DOT stamped and you can probably argue your case with the state or the inspector, especially if you show them that you have them aimed correctly and the high and low beams both work correctly and you have them installed properly. id give it a shot, worst they can do is say no, and then you can ask them for a couple of days to swap out the lights to the factory originals and come back through. thats how id do it.

-just so you know you will still technically be illegal federally though, but yeah most feds could care less. and if you get this current set up approved, id keep a copy of it with your insurance card and registration so if you ever get pulled over again you can show the officer that you have been inspected before and it was approved under such vehicle code... its worth a shot. i know id be pissed to if i had put that much work into a set of projectors.

Hey, have a change of heart? I suggested him to argue the DOT approved deal and you bit my f-ing head off. You should really be more consistent if you are going to be an ass.

sorry... i guess i was just wrapped up in the moment... my bad and apologies man.

what i was trying to say -and i stated it in my "if they are stamped DOT...." change of heart post, that he might be able to argue that point but its still illegal federally. -state might revert to the federal standard if challenged locally, and they would be 100% correct and have the authority to over-rule it and a judge would probably 9-10 times side with the federal rule.

i only stated my "give it a shot" advice because he quoted a local or state law/code ect that had some areas that were vague at best and left room for him to argue. so i told him to go ahead and give it a shot. -basically whats the worst that could happen? they say no, ok well hes back to square one where he started out...

i was just perturbed that everyone seams to think that they can just do what they want and laws dont pertain to them... i wasnt trying to single you out or pick on you, it was more then idea or the mentality that i was attacking and i perceived in your post. it was nothing personal or ment personally and if i said something to that nature, im wrong and im sorry.

It's no big deal lol, I was just like waahhhh!? when i read it. I can definitely understand the whole "well that doesn't pertain to me" thing making you angry cause it makes me angry too. I just knew how much work retros are and was trying to help the op to keep them. Not for the sake of being argumentative and truthfuly the way I had phrased my first post kind of put a target on my back.

So no worries :)

this was exactly my line of thought the whole time, i just couldnt bring myself to encourage anyone to something that would get them into trouble or make things worse for them... im all about picking my battles, and sometimes it sucks because you have a lot invested into something -weather it be monetarily or emotionally or sentimentally ect, and its hard to let go and walk away. but as soon as the lop-hole was presented i was all for it. -imo its done right, and not bothering anyone else so i say go for it. i mean id do the same thing, id be pissed if i was him too, and id hate to lose all that work
 
hey guys, so yeah it was the Provo police department that i went to to get everything approved. I got a paper, but I don't think it will do anything considering the UHP is a different department.

The cop that checked everything out didn't seem to be too particular of the UHP. It totally reminded me of the rivalry on Super Troopers lol. I dunno, I've gone 3 years with nobody saying anything my lights until now. Even inspection stations i went to didn't make a peep. If anything I might go pick up some of those 4300K Phillips bulbs
