I am not, nor have I ever been an Officer. I know quite a few Police Officers. I've also been on numerous ride-a-longs. All of them notice modified vehicles, but usually they have more important things to attend to, then stopping modified vehicles for a closer look.

Now Highway Patrol Officers really notice modified vehicles, and look for illegal modifications on those vehicles. The vast majority of their job is patrolling the highways looking for violations.

IF ONLY i could let that officer ride with me one night, and compare some light outputs, halogen, PnP and the retrofit... I guarantee he would rip up that ticket and ask me to build him a set for his patrol car... dahhhh

I know a guy that was selling copyrighted material: Movies, computer programs, music, etc.

I knew he was very computer savvy, and had asked him something about a computer program one day, and he mentioned he could get me a copy for pennies on the dollar. I told him the offer was tempting, but I didn't feel comfortable buying what was essentially stolen property. I told him he was risking a lot (his, and his wife and daughters future) for relatively little financial gain. He said he wasn't worried, and that his business selling copyrighted material was small time, and no one would be the wiser.

Anyway, it turned out his best customer was the FBI.

About a year later, he was busted, tried, fined, and spent two years in the Federal Penitentiary in Colorado, and then several years on supervised release.

yes i too know people who have been busted for piracy... what i am saying is i do not know anyone who has been busted to the full extent of the law... how many copies of " different stuff" did he make? im guessing hundreds if not thousands ect, copying and selling... and he only ended up in prison for 2 years... that could of been 10years and $100,000 per item per time -thats how the laws read.

what i am saying is there is a law or code or regulation against it, it is illegal, and thus you are subject to the consequences, though they might not be to the fullest extent stated.

who knows you might only get a $600 fine for everything.... still not something i want to risk, one of the reasons i have not jumped on the HID retrofit wagon, that and to have them done by a reputable company is $$$ -with that company you potentially have a leg to stand on, especially if they use OE products. but still its a grey area, and im really reluctant to spend that kinda $$$ on something that is potentially gonna cost me more

Everyone's going to have an opinion and unfortunately mine goes the opposite way.
No the laws of your state before you put in HID's. It's illegal in many states, and there are other "goofy laws" that people aren't aware of. And the problem is, GottaBe did his right. The problem is thousands others haven't and they're the ones creating the problem.

You got busted, it's illegal, fix it or pay the fine and risk court costs and further problems. It's your call. If you live in a small town//area, that cop knows your car now. If he sees it like that again, boom.

And since you've been busted for it once now, it sounds like its something you'll worry about every time you drive.

You have to decide what to do.

Ive never met a police officer who had that kind of mentality.. its a damn truck for pete's sake. Its not like we are flying down the streets in an r34 or something.

[MENTION=37079]GottaBeTRD[/MENTION] its good to have a spare set of headlights. just swap those in and get your inspection done and swap back.. as for tints not much you can do about that except remove and put a lighter color if you want.

edit: ALSO, just leave the TYC sticker or whatever DOT sticker you have on your retrofit.. and claim ignorance. say you bought them and it had a DOT if they ask you... those shitty ebay projector headlights are DOT approved.. just say you got it like that.

I would definitely think hard about swapping back to your projectors after getting the ticket taken care of. Like I said UHP are assigned specific areas so I'm sure the trooper will see your rig again and look at it long and hard because it is so noticeable.

Also claiming ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law and will possibly just end up pissing the cop off more. Especially if they can see that it isn't the first time someone has talked to you about this issue.

That is dumb. Just get some headlights from a junkyard so the DMV/court can see that you fixed it....then simply put your retrofit back in place.

In WA your car gets impounded on the 3rd offense. Probably not a good strategy.

Someone else just got a fix it ticket for HIDs. Maybe the State Patrol conference they showed a 3rd gen 4runner!

Illegal wheeling is a bit different issue, but it's interesting the have such extreme consequences. I suppose you're actually damaging property, so it makes some sense. WSP generally pretty professional and reasonable from my experience.

Unless they have changed the system in the last two years it shouldn't show fix-it tickets when they run your license and plate, but it very well might.

Just to stay on the safe side though I would switch them out and leave the stock housings in and just get some good halogen bulbs with a good light color and output.

i know OR and WA both keep records of all vehicles stops.. i think they only keep them for 12 or 18 months though in the system, or if the vehicle changes RO, witch ever is first.
