Homelink swap

I found an upper console that has the homelink. It appears the wiring is the same for the non-homelink and the homelink upper console, it just draws off the power already going there. Does anyone know for sure if it really is as easy as R&R the upper console and just plug in the existing plug?

FYI, mine is a 2008 t4r SR5 V6

Some folks have done the GX upper console swap. Even if its not PnP, I don't think it would be too hard to wire in the homelink. It's going to be very similar to doing the Gentex homelink mirror swap. I've installed them into all our vehicles. Just a few wires. Hardest part is figuring out which wire on the homelink mirror does what (hot, ground) if they're not labeled.

Just make sure you plan your day carefully. Give yourself at least 90 seconds to do the swap.

I found out my garage door opener is too new for this system. I would have to buy a compatibility module or something. No thanks.

And I don’t know if techno thinks you’re some sort of technically gifted genius or something, but if you’re normal folk, like me, I would allot at least 2-3x of what techno recommends for a time budget.

Mine in the 2001 Sienna still works with my doors, even with the rolling codes, so I will hope I am good with the 2008 Homelink. :-)

You sound like my wife with that remark...:-)

Seriously, it's extremely easy.
20 seconds to put tape on the tip of a flathead screwdriver.
20 seconds to stick the screwdriver between the headliner and the console on the windshield side and pop the clips
20 seconds to remove console and unplug the terminals, then clip them onto the new console
20 seconds to reinstall.
10 seconds to say 'techno was right!'

Does anyone have the part number for the homelink console without sunroof buttons? Can’t seem to find it, just the one with the sunroof buttons.

ebay had 3 or 4 in grey and tan without the homelink buttons last time I looked at my saved searches. I just search for 4runner overhead console homelink and ones with and without the homelink come up. the last couple weeks have been a bit lighter on the used consoles than it was a month ago.

here is one for less that $25.
