Hood Hard to Close

Is the hood latch adjustable? I find that I have to slam it shut or else it won't latch on its own. The only threads I found on this forum are how to adjust the hood gap, but not anything about adjusting it to close easier.

Yes, it's supposed to take some effort, but if it doesn't want to latch it may need adjusting or your truck has a history of being in an accident and things don't line up.

Make sure the 2 rubber bump stops aren't threaded out too much.

i just have to drop mine from maybe 4"ish and it closes

I tried to close it when it’s 3-4” like others have mentioned, but the hood struts hold it there on its own. I would say I can go 2”, but that’s not enough force to allow gravity to close it. I’m literally holding it up around 2” and putting some effort into “slamming” it to secure onto the latch.

Clean and lube the hinges and the latch mechanism, can't hurt to clean the shafts on the pistons either, if there is gooey gunk on any of that stuff...

The hood struts hold it at 2", that seems unusual. Is it possible the hood struts, or one of them is messed up causing to much back pressure? Maybe they were replaced with the wrong struts? Try disconnecting them (very carefully so hood doesn't fall) and then closing. Maybe you just need a new strut(s).

That’s normal. My 2019 wont close with gravity, you have to give it a little help.

See that's interesting, maybe they changed the strut geometry but mine and others I have seen of similar years (~2013) the strut support starts to fade off at about ~16" inches give or take a few and you let it down gently it will remain ajar at a few inches. Mine will absolutely close with gravity from about 10 inches and it always has.

Conundrum!

I have a 2014 if that helps. Not sure if it's a hood strut issue. It does what's it intended for and holds the hood in the up position.

If it were me, I would rule them out by removing one at a time carefully while supporting hood and see if the problem go's away.

The piston could be failed or wrong and fighting the closing of the hood. Easy test to rule that out.

Also, check those bump stops!

take one off and see if thats the issue? how's that gonna help, the hood will slam shut cause it'll have half the support as before lol. if they aren't leaking or covered in oil the strut isn't bad. if one was bad the hood would have a hard time staying up.

You're a genius. I guess the new generation needs things articulately spelled out for them so they don't hurt themselves. As I said, carefully remove one at a time, inferring that you hold the hood up. Yes, struts can fail without leaking and yes they can lock up or give resistance when they do.
