Hood release / latch

Anyone else have their hood latch stick open. Not sure if I need a new cable but have to reset by pushing down on latch everytime I open.

From what I can see, a good cleaning with a solvent of some sort, PB Blaster sort of thing, and then a couple shots of WD-40 or similar, would do wonders for the operation of the latch. Might even solve the entire problem.
There's an awful lot of dirt caked in the moving parts you show in your pictures. A dental tool, or other small, pointy, item would do a lot towards being able to clean the dirt out. Then, once again, some oil of some sort might be the solution you need.
Once it's clean and oiled, actuating the latch from inside will get the oil worked into the cable. Problem solved.

This is a super common problem with late 90s thru early 2000s Toyota trucks. The only real fix seems to be to a new latch. I have tried replacing the spring, cleaning and lubricating the latch. Lubricating it just makes road dirt stick to the latch and gum it up again. I am saying this as the owner of multiple 20 year old Toyotas and someone who repairs cars for a living. If cleaning it and lubricating it with a non greasy lube doesn't fix it or fixes it temporarily you need a new latch.

It's a very smart idea to remove your grille before doing the cable FYI. When I replaced mine a couple years ago I closed the hood for some reason (can't remember if I just spaced out or was testing it) - and the only way to release it without a working cable is to drill a hole in the plate so you can release the arm with a screwdriver. If your grille is still in place you'd have to break it to get inside, since the hood needs to be up to remove it

Mine is doing this also. No amount of lube and cleaning has fixed it so far. I use my multitool to reset the latch before closing the hood. So far so good.
