Hood Swap

Hey all.

I'm one of the many who would like to swap hoods with somebody who has the scoop. I have a 2014 Super White SR5-P hood in perfect shape. Let me know if you are interested and I will offer you some cash with the deal.

I'm in SoCal but will drive to you if you aren't too far away.

When I was searching for a hood swap for my SR5 there is probably only one T4R.org documented hood swap between 2 members, it between Antman and another member.

I think most folks here like to play around with the idea of swapping their TE hood but never go through with it.

I got lucky and met another TE owner at a gas station and he happened to have an extra OEM TE hood of the same color in his garage!

Just subscribe to the for sale/ trade thread her in the 5th gen section with immediate updates to your phone and troll the general classifieds section regularly. The offers are rare, but can be found if you wait long enough.

I was lucky when honda99ex wanted a flat hood. Jumped on that deal like a fat kid on a doughnut!

The reflection from the sun blows, think twice.

Eh. People always complained about that on Tacomas as well and it wasn't bad at all. I'm pretty tall so maybe it is the angle difference.

I think the scoop makes the front look more aggressive. I want a snorkel and feel that the front will look great once I get my front bumper, scoop, grille, and snorkel. Lots of work must be done!

As someone with a white hood scoop in Sunny LA, I second the thought that you may not want it once you get it. Air can't move through it so it's only function is to increase glare.

The struggle is real. If i am on a downward slope pointed towards the sun it hits me right in the face. This isn't a constant problem and only happens every now and then but it is a thing. However i still love the scoop.

I think it's the white paint. I have attitude black and have never noticed glare...anyone else have glare issues with black paint? I like the look even if it's not functioning

Barcelona red scooped hood wanted in Denver! Less than 500 miles on the 4runner now. Let me know if anyone is interested in swapping. I put a scooped hood on my 3rd gen and have never noticed any sort of glare. :noidea::thumb3: But I'm sure it's awful on these 5th gens. Let's trade!

We are trying to help the people get rid of their glare!

You can't have mine but I'll tell you in my almost two years of ownership (white Trail) I've never once been bothered by glare. I'm not sure why it's such a big deal. Maybe it's because I'm tall (like someone else said) but it's never been a problem. (I'm 6'3"-6'4").

I'm 6'3" also and never had an issue with my tacomas scoop while others complained. It must be the height then.

Great so people stop telling me not to get the scoop and give me yours! haha

Wanna trade? haha

Ha, no thanks. That's a mod I don't care to do.

I also just don't understand the desire for it. The last 4Runner I owned was a 2nd Gen in the late 90s/early 00s. Then I had a 2004 LR Discovery which I sold and picked up this new Trail. Neither needed a hood scoop.

When I first looked at the Trail on the dealer lot and opened the hood and saw the full liner I started laughing. I never thought it was with a purely cosmetic hood scoop. I guess when I used to see Tacomas on the road I assumed it was functional. I had no idea.

Yeah they've never been functional on any of them. Just cosmetic.

If you get tired of your glare, let me know and we can swap! My non scooped hood is in perfect shape and we have the same color in the same location!
