It's likely a certifit hood. I went this route for my 3rd gen. Bought the cheap $80 hood. Came primed ready for paint. Then like you said, just bought the insert and guide. The fitment is decent, but not great. The sheet metal is definitely thinner than stock. My 3rd gen is 16 years old and I'm happy with the hood for what I paid for it, but to me it would be worth the extra cash to buy an OEM hood this time around. My new 5th gen is just too nice to not have a perfectly fitting hood. Just my 2 cents!

You can check to see if there is a certifit near you. Then you wouldn't have to pay shipping. Part number for scooped hood is TY4R05EB. Not sure on pricing, but like I said, my 3rd gen was $80.00

I love the hood scoop on my runner. It reminds me of my wrx's I use to own, except they worked. Maybe I'll turbo upgrade the truck and add a top mount intercooler....nawt. Ha!
 
Christ that's it I'm going to come up with a solution to get us all have hood scoops and will charge 10% over cost for it. I'll be able to retire.

I'm the opposite. I don't like the hood scoop. Barcelona red with 1200 miles and the clear paint protection installed...who wants to trade?

2016 Super White SR5

I know this is old but might as well... I want the scoop as well. New 2016 SR5 Super White flat hood would trade with cash too.
 
Is it just the brighter colors that are having the glare issue? I have a week old Nautical Blue and it's showroom waxed and shined and there has been no glare for me.

Now I do live in Seattle and it's almost winter and I've seen the sun twice this week. But still no glare.
 
Worth a try to revive this thread. I'm looking for a superwhite scooped hood. Get rid of that glare in your eyes and give it to me! But seriously, my hood is in excellent condition and let me know if you're in the Colorado area and want to trade.
 
Following this thread just so I can hopefully witness a successful swap. They only seem to happen once in a blue unicorn needle haystack.

Very similar to the Subaru guys wanting STI winged trunks on their non-STIs and swapping with STI guys who were sick of them. Grass is always greener.......But seriously if anyone wants a SW SR5 hood around Iowa let me know :laugh:

Good Trade

I am also looking to trade hoods, I have a 15 Barcelona Red Limited. Looking to trade for a scooped hood in the same color. My hood is in great condition, I'm located in Oklahoma City if anyone is interested in trading. I know it's a long shot but I figured I'd give it a try.
 
I tried for a while and then couldn't wait any longer and bought one from my dealer friend at Toyota for cost, and had it painted. Try ALL the junkyards and pick N pulls, you never know you may get lucky!

The hood, insert, and a few extra clips was right around $380- Paint was around the same., Close to $750 OTD. I am sure other can get it painted cheaper, but I opted for better paint, and the underside shot completely.
 
Anyone looking to swap their magnetic gray metallic hood with scoop for a regular 2014 non-scoop hood? Im located in south florida.

Might as well throw my hat in the ring too. If anyone in the D.C./Md/Va area is looking to swap their hood with scoop for a stock hood without scoop plus cash, let me know. Willing to drive to do the swap. Galaxy black color
