Those stocking up on guns and ammo are the same people stocking up on TP and hand sanitizer. HERD MENTALITY.

I have been stocking up for years on ammo and guns in preparation for the next price increase (ie: mass/school shooting, democrat in office, etc.). Buy it when it's cheap and store it away. Those buying now are simply reacting. It's too late.

and, it seems many of those people are surprised/confused as to why its not as easy to buy as they were lead to believe...

I should hope that nobody is actually stocking up on guns and ammo, but it is one of the things that many joke about.

This is not an end of the world scenario so extra ammo won't help.

I don't personally own a gun but I can understanding having one and at least making sure you have enough ammo. Look at the new police order in Philadelphia. They are instructed to stop arresting people for non-violent crimes.

This includes: narcotic offenses, theft from persons, retail theft, theft from auto, burglary, vandalism, stolen auto, prostitution, bench warrants, and economic crimes.

I can see where a lot of those "non-violent" crimes turn into a very violent situations. Especially if you are trying to defend yourself. Apparently they don't want their own cops possibly coming into contact with someone with covid19 so they'll let these crimes slide. Gun related crimes in Baltimore have only increased since the virus impacted MD. Apparently a pandemic and national state of emergency can't deter criminals and it sounds like they're more encouraged from it. I can only imagine what would happen if they ordered police officers to look the other way in regards to non-violent crimes in Baltimore.

That being said, do I need to buy every gun and ammo off the shelf? Probably not.

people definitely are. shelves are bare, and supplies low. the fact that state agencies keep calling for banning gun/ammo sales doesn't help.
 
[MENTION=390705]cb1111[/MENTION] or any one else. There are not enough supply of test kits. Is'their going to be in the foreseeable future? There are a couple of folks that are sick and cannot precure a test . Their doctor doesn't want them to come to the office but stay in self isolation until a'test kit is available that will be delivered to their residence. Obviously it's a distressfull situation for them.

I just got off a telcon with the German version of the CDC and they effectively validated the assumption that this may go 18 months.

Another interesting point is that they've found that some people may present without any symptoms for up to 3 weeks - a week longer than the 14 days we speak about here.

While i'm not stocking up at the moment, i do keep stores. Why, its my right to do so. That and there is no one going to protect you and yours when the steal hits the meat. Not the local PD, not the National guard and surely not the self serving political class in dee Sleeze. People buying now are to late and will only create a larger issue for those of us that learn, train and fight for our 2nd amendment almost daily. Its their right to do so, i just hope they do it responsibly. Learn the firearm, learn the laws and learn the does and dont's of living with the responsibility. Unfortunately the ones buying now will wind up being a burden on those that have chosen the lifestyle of being armed.

Yes, so that is an issue that isn't going to be resolved in the US in the next couple of weeks (at which time we'll see a huge spike in cases), but there are a few guidelines to follow:

  • Do you have symptoms that would (under "normal" circumstances) send you to the doctor?
  • High fever?
  • Trouble breathing
  • Recent international travel?
  • Contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID19?

If they have any of the above AND would under normal circumstances go to the doctor, then call their doctor or the Colorado Dept of Health.

Remember that it is flu season and getting sick now doesn't mean that you have cOVID19. If you are in a high risk category (older, pre-existing conditions etc.) then your doctor should prioritize testing. They can also test for the seasonal flu flu first and rule that out.

I wouldn't worry too much. People reacting will keep their gun stowed away because they likely were never interested in firearms in the first place.

As long as food is in the stores and those big gov checks come in, its a non issue. The masses are more subjugated then they are lead to believe. What ever is going on, i hope it will change things for the better when this nonsense is over.

Its not them using it I'm concerned with, but proper storage, theft, self inflicted injuries and the black eye it will give the " gun community ".

What I do know is the numbers coming out of Italy as an example of what happens when the medical systems are overwhelmed.

35713 known cases, 2978 fatalities, so a 8%+ fatality rate at this moment but still rising.

That was at noon today. Now at 1800 hours (same day) the numbers are 41035 known cases and 3405 fatalities.

On average, 1673 people die in Italy every day. If you assume that the numbers above were updates from the previous day, then they had 427 fatalities from COVID19 - that's 25%
