Kinda did.

We currently ave 10 in Hawaii. We stop it from ballooning we did a damn good job. Now I understand your point we don't know what the curve is. But you can't deny keeping the #'s low means we are doing something right.

I think he's saying that we can reduce the rate of spread of the infection without knowing how many are infected.

We don't have actual numbers of infected available to us because people get infected and get symptoms days before they get tested - IF they get tested at all. In fact, the only way we could possibly know how many are infected (and therefore see an accurate curve) would be to test everyone on a regular and frequent basis. Absent that, we need to rely to some extent on the testing that is being done to get any reading at all on what's happening with the virus. And whether we take those test results into account or disregard them, the fact remains that a disease that's communicated largely via close physical proximity will spread less vigorously if steps are taken to reduce occurrences of close physical proximity.

Just my two cents.

Flat out, this is all politically motivated. This was known about since the beginning of January. Im by no means a Trump supporter but he definitely underestimate how far they were willing to go. As soon as Dems found out about it, they be like:

My parents and school teachers already taught me defense against the CCPvirus 50+ years ago :)
Wash hands, etc thoroughly,
Keep surroundings clean,
Keep away from people who are sick (or suspected of having the #ccpvirus),
Keep away from other people because I may have the CCPVirus but not know it.
Oh BTW, while you're practicing all of the above, what do you do about your shoes before walking all over your floor/carpet with them? We had always taken ours off and left them at the entrance. :)

Of course, when there is no crisis I prefer to be not too sterile; keeps the immune system stronger -LOL!

Agreed. I am not a trump supporter either (I consider myself firmly in the middle), but man I’m about to be. The way they have been after him since day one. Saying on network TV with a straight face that he’s literally Hitler. At some point people have to realize that the people calling him Hitler are still on TV saying the same ridiculous crap with no consequence. (This is how we know that he is not, in fact, literally Hitler.)

But the big thing for me is that this has shown trump was dead-on right about China all along. They (and I’m obviously speaking about the CCP, not the people of China) are no friend to us or the rest of the world, and their early handling of this outbreak is why other countries including the US are dealing with so many cases. I read a study out of the UK that said if they had started containment measures 3 weeks before they did (when they were just trying to cover it up), the global outbreak could have been reduced 95%. Crazy!

Also, they basically stopped testing. That’s why their new cases numbers have gone down.

Anyway, to answer the OP’s question, I started building a 30-day emergency food supply for my family back in Jan. A little bit at a time. Dry goods like rice and beans, canned meats and veggies. Stores are still somewhat stocked, and I doubt we’ll need it, but I thought it was a good idea.

Meanwhile, back to the original topic of this thread.
My preparation for this shutdown was mostly serendipity. Just before the crisis happened I made one of my occasional Costco trips for paper products and isopropyl alcohol, which I use as a solvent for work on the 4R and antiseptic for gardening equipment, and beer. It’s a good thing I got the TP, paper towels, alcohol, and tissue because these items still are hard to find in any grocery or drug store even today. Just about everything else is readily available in stores. I figure the hoarders have just about topped off their storage capacity. I anticipate the supply/demand system will normalize in another week or two after people stop panicking.

I minimize the times I go to grocery stores; trying to stay away from people. I’ve been washing my hands more often and wiping the 4R steering wheel and knobs with antiseptic wipes. It’s turning into kind of an OCD paranoia at times.

Each day there’s lots to do around the house and truck. Lots of chores to catch up on. Lots of TV to watch. Every day the wife and I hit the trails in the parks and preserves around us, or at least we walk around the hood. Gotta stay active to stay sane.
 
One day after a stay home public safety alert, there were tons of people hiking, trail running and fishing at a local lake this morning LOL.

No one was clustered together :pimp:

On the optimistic side, here's a plot of a past viral epidemic from the CDC. Obviously not the current virus, and we don't know for sure, but these things tend to fall away about as fast as they start.

That's one of the key questions - when did it actually start?

I personally don't think it took root and began spreading in the US in Feb or March. Testing for it started scaling up this month. It had to have started earlier than that but hard to know for sure.
