Horn Fix Solutions???

So I need to get my 88 truck to pass inspection and I think the stupid horn is the last thing stopping me. It has not worked since I bought the truck. I replaced the pin and cleaned the contact plate, applied dielectric grease etc. I can clearly see the pin and the plate make contact but still, nothing. I replaced the fuse just to be safe and I checked and cleaned all the connections as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions for my next course of action? I'm not sure if it's worth it to keep trying to fix the stock horn or just give up and put in some kind of switch activated aftermarket horn.

Very annoying when I have a great running truck and I can't get it to pass for such a dumb reason.

Thanks for the help!

Might wanna go through this post about the horn that was posted a week ago

Do you know if the horn even works? Try running wires to it directly to see if you can get it to make a sound at all. If you get nothing, buy a new horn, they sell 'em all over the place, including harbor freight!

If it beeps, its the wiring and not the horn. move on from there and check the wiring at the horn to see if you get power/ground when someone holds the button down. Keep tracing the wires from there until you find the break in the wire(s).

Oh alright, always forget this forum doesn't automatically subscribe you to a thread when you post on it.

Thanks for the input! I'll try to get it figured out and report on my findings.

Soooo, the horn is fixed.

First thing I did a couple weeks ago was swap out the fuse, nothing. Then I replaced the little spring pin and cleaned, shimmed, and greased the contact plate. Nothing.

Today I tested the horn with an external power source and it worked. For shits and giggles I put the original fuse back in aaaaand beep beep! It works!

Seems as though autozone sold me some bad fuses.

On the downside, my bad idle problem returned right after the horn started working. At least I passed inspection.
