Mine sounds like it belongs in a smurf car.
I heard horns from some of the early 80's GM cars are crazy loud and can be purchased on eBay for pretty cheap.

well i really wanted to run train horn setup, but im alright with the 2 pairs of hella super tones right now. its enough, but not train horn loud.
Are those pretty much plug n play or are there mods to do?

just need a few extra wires and connectors, its plug and play, but I still run a harness for it.
I install a set of Hella Super tones on every single car I buy with a weak horn.
On the 4Runner it was the easiest thing to install since you have such good access and I didn't have to drill any holes or do any modification to mount them. Just buy them, get a couple wires, heat shrink, spade connectors, a wire stripper, and you're done.

The ones on my T4R have been fine. They're pretty loud I think. The ones on my Tundra were mounted really low in the front. If I hit a few hard puddles they somehow got water inside and sounded "cute" for a week or two until they dried out. Maybe the ones on your rig got drowned at some point?

I also used the Hella's as an upgrade. I used the factory wiring and just ran a ground for each horn. Very easy upgrade. Follow the link below for simple instructions:

if you are going to use a trumpet style horn, make sure you have "splash guards" on them otherwise water will get into them, thus damaging them. Ask me how I know. Pretty sure any "OEM" horn will do (all are 12V). The Hella ones do NOT come with the splash guards (or fabricate them). Also, point them DOWNWARD.
Installed these exact horns off Amazon n 2012, still working great.
