mute panels? do you have a picture of this? or a description? sounds like a good idea. is this mod reversable? how does it sound? louder? lower pitched? thanks!

Aren't these panels designed to direct the sound FORWARD instead of downward.

I suppose you mean the pieces of plastic below the sound exit hole.

I mean, all the european cars I've had have come with this kind of horns, made by FIAMM (Italy) or Hella (Germany), but none of them had these panels.

They are a lot louder without them what ever their intended purpose. A whole lot louder.

Probably to comply with some state or osha regulation somewhere.

I'm adding another pair of horns on the other side anyway. Need all the help you can get in Atlanta.

Give us a picture of it before we tear off the radiator.:bash:
I can not wait to do this since I need a loud horn to have someone open the gate for me.

Picture ? !
give me a break -

open hood
look
horns are the two things just to the right of the centerline
in front of the radiator

plastic doors cover the business end of the horn - they are designed to be broken off at their two tiny hinges

I suspect that it is a dealer or distributor check list item to remove them.

A+ post. That was hilarious.....
:D

They are splash guards, at lease according to a worksheet from Ford when they disassembled a 03 4runner and compared the components with an explorer.

Here is the original post from Pribilof, which linked to the Ford site which contained the worksheet.

BTW, I noticed the link is now dead, but I did managed to download the worksheet when access was still open.

Post pics, please!!!!!

Splash?
Driving in the rain, most of the water would come from the front, not from below.
You wanna see pix of the horns? Yeah, I thought the same thing. Plus the way that the horn curves around like a conc-shell, I would think it would be a natural moisure trap.

I broke both tabs, and it still sounds the same.

I hope the horns don't drown next time it rains.
I hope so too! Are we like dumb or what - thinking we can improve on what master Toyota has done!!?? LOL

If we can't improve on it, then why are most of us mod hungry and on this forum??? Are you saying we should shut all this work down and buy Honda ricers to mod?

NOW YOU REALLY SCARED ME!!! :bash:

Those tabs must have been there for a reason!!!
:chair:

But, seriously, do you hear it any louder now?
Because to me it sounds the same.

I'll have to ask my wife. She said (before the tabs came off) that it was the loudest horn she had ever heard! Perhaps we are screwing with perfection . . .
