horn question!

so i for the 6+ years that i have owned my runner my horn has not worked! today i pulled the plastic cover off from around the stearing column and saw that their was a brass or copper pin with a small spring around it. on the back side of pin their was a wire their was a green with a stipe on it. i touched the pin with the wire on it to a ground (the column) and the horn would sound! question 1) can this be bipassed? or 2) can this be fixed? i am fine with using a toggle or button to fix the problem, replacement parts will also work! i just want my horn to work! sacramento is full of people that dont know how to drive or should not be on the road (using cell phones)! anny thoughts will be a big help.

When you hit the horn, it's supposed to push that pin into a copper ring, which closes the contact. Either the pin isn't touching the ring, or you've got corrosion preventing a solid contact. I'd take your wheel off and figure out why you're not making a good connection there before wiring an aftermarket button.

the horn does not work beacuse the head of the pin(the part that touches the wheel) is to far gone. for some reason their is a 1/8 gap between the ring on the wheel and the pin with the wire on it! i used a flat head screwdriver and completed the circut and got the horn to work! the problem is that the pin is so far away from the ring on the back of the wheel.
