Horrible Shaking

Hi all,

I have an '07 2WD SR5 V6. And whenever i am coasting about 30-40MPH this terrible shaking starts happening. I have a radar detector mounted on my windshield and the shaking is so bad that the radar just bounces on its mount and the other day it got so bad that it fell off. I have no clue what it may be besides my driveshaft being out of balance. And what is really weird about it is that its never a set speed. some days its at 30 MPH, others its 40, some days its so bad i have to just have to avoid those coasting speeds altogether.

Can anyone help as far as giving their own opinions/insights as to what may be wrong with Stunner?

Bad U-joint, tire out of balance, loose lug nuts, bad bushing... Really theres allot it could be.. A good close look at all your drivetrain and you will likely spot it.. Your description is a little vague

My tires are misaligned but when I'm going down a hill and in gear at those speeds the shaking happens, if I shift into neutral it almost goes away so that minor shaking that remains is probably the front tires being misaligned. i dont think its the transmission because it still shifts just fine and I've only put 58k miles on the entire drivetrain. The lug nuts aren't likely because me and a buddy just tackled a full tire rotation and torqued down every one. He suggeste U-joint as well. What should I look for if it would be the U-joint?

Look at both ends of the driveshaft, a cap may be missing, cracked ujoint carrier or play of any kind in them wich would let the driveshaft shift..the ujoints are the bearings on both ends of the drive shaft

Is the shake only in the body, or dose the steering wheel get it too.. Dose it feel as tho its comming from a certain area? The backlash in the diff could be off too, but unlikely. Is there a noise when it happens.. Dose it happen after a bump in the road? Try to link as many things as you can that happen just before, during and after it start shaking.. All common things can help allot to pinpoint it

Ok, here goes

Its body shake, I've never noticed my steering wheel shaking or any trouble switching lanes while the shaking occurs. Then It always happens around coasting. 1100-1300RPM approximately. And it seems to radiate around the middle of the car. if i had to guess, rear seat floor/seats area. then, it only happens at certain gears through the transmission I'm gonna guess fourth because a kick down a gear makes the shaking go away and a shift up a gear around 40mph also stops it. It never happens after a bump nor does a bump make it go away after it has been occurring. Like I said earlier, the only thing that causes this is driving between 30-40mph.

torque converter. or something in the trans.

take it to a transmission shop.

I took it to a local tranny shop. The clutch packs for gears 2 and 4 are messed up (they share the same one) and thats causing the shaking. expensive to fix, and i basically need a new transmission. Apparently driving slow further exacerbates the problem. Thank god I have no problem mashing the throttle.

But now all my projects for Stunner are on hold or even canceled. : ( Especially the turbo I've been planning on putting in :' (
