Hot to Test Multi-Mode AWD is Working?

I've done some searching but haven't found any definitive answers...

Anyone know of an easy check of the AWD system on my 1999 Limited?

As if it's working or ?? Some easy way's are gravel parking lots and see if you get a spin of a front tire (AWD working). Jacking up all wheels and spinning tires is another way, though this isn't for sure. I've only done this to check if the rear end is locked or not. I hope this helps some.

I have no reason to suspect it's broken, just want to make sure it is good to go before winter!!

BTW, how do you like the e-locker? How hard was it to retrofit? How expensive??

E-locker is the single greatest boost (by a country mile too) you can give to your truck's off-road ability. You can get a complete used setup for $450-$800 depending on how creative you are.

one way to test it is to drive in 2WD then engage AWD (while the speed is less than 50 mph). When AWD is engaged, and the 4 green tires are lit, you can feel the steering become heavier but no binding.

alternatively, you can jack up the 4 corners of your truck. start it up, place the tranny in D, then press the AWD button. the 4 wheels will spin at different speeds with the fronts significantly slower than the rears. after a few minutes, your ABS light will light up. not to worry, after you take your truck for a drive, the ABS light will switch off.

Turn on the 'AWD' mode, reach under and try to turn the front driveshaft. If it is 'locked' but you don't get binding when driving (as you would in true 4WD mode), you are in AWD mode.

Also, you can probably just trust the lights on the dash.

When I press AWD button, the 4 wheels on the dash will flash green. I often hear and feel a small clunk as the transfer case engages the front wheels, and then wheels on the dash change from flashing green to solid green.
