How accurate is trip computer?

For me, I guess it's just the principle of the matter:

Unlike the numbers on the window - which are regulated and required by federal government mandate - the MPG Calculator we are discussing is totally unregulated... we are at the mercy of the automakers to not lie to us. We all agree the 4Runner MPG calculator is 7-10% high. If the MPG Calculator varied by each individual truck, we would be hearing from people who say it's perfectly accurate or even 7-10% under. Instead, we are only hearing that it is 7-10% high. The MPG Calculator is obviously not inaccurate due to variability; again, we all agree that it is 7-10% high. Toyota knew this calculator was off. There is no excuse for its not correcting the error. I assumed the company that markets the ultra-efficient Prius would not be the same company to lie with the MPG Calculator in its SUV.

I know we're all tired of hearing it, but in the wake of Tyco and WorldCom, we should all demand more from our corporations.

The MPG Calculator is obviously not inaccurate due to variability; again, we all agree that it is 7-10% high.

Mine is consistently 12 - 15% high. I don't even pay attention to it anymore.

You can try, but you'll just get some lazy, dismissive response. As long as people continue to worship Toyota like they do, sales will always be good. They have no real motivation to fix all the minor problems.
