How can you tell if a Trail has KDSS?

I'm currently shopping around for a TE. I'm doing a lot of shopping around online.....so how can I tell if they came with KDSS? Any tell tale signs? I've asked a few dealers (Non-Toyota) if the TE they have for sale has the KDSS option and they all responded that they were unsure. I know there isn't a button. Is their a code on the VIN?

I'm running into the same issue. They have no idea and no interest in checking for you.

Look underneath at the sway bars. Are they attached with the regular nuts and bolts then no KDSS. If there is a canister attached on one side with a boot then you have KDSS.

Also a way to check is in the front, look at the lower control arms. Is the sway bar connected there? If yes then KDSS if it is connect elsewhere then no KDSS.

Confirming, this 2014 TE Prem does not have KDSS

Correct, that is not KDSS.

If you're doing shopping online vs. going out to the car and looking underneath for KDSS, shouldn't the 4runner you are looking at have the VIN provided by the seller so that you can do a carfax etc.? If so, why don't you just call Toyota USA with the VIN and ask them?

Before I bought my Mazda, I got the VIN and called Mazda USA, and they provided all the details of the car in question.

But it's great that the seller doesn't know if the 4runner have KDSS right? That way they won't charge you for the ones that have KDSS if they don't know it's on it in the first place.

As others have said, probably easiest to just look under the front drivers side. If you dont want to do that there is a KDSS light on the dash at the bottom right that lights up during initial startup.

When I was purchasing my TEP in January the dealer listing didn't even mention that the vehicle was equipped with KDSS though it had most every other option and feature displayed on their website. :wtf:

I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival but it would have been nice to know in advance.

Not that it matters much, but the easiest clue for KDSS IMHO is the first pictures... Just stand in front and look at the front lower control arm (you don't really have to get down on the ground). If there is a big thick swaybar attached directly to the lower control arm, it is KDSS. A normal swaybar attaches via a traditional link to the spindle and is tucked up much higher and is not easily seen.

The attached pic shows one without KDSS. If it has it, you would see a big swaybar and bushing attached where the arrow is.

Please, please don't ever try to bleed your KDSS system. You will F it up and have to pay big $$$ to fix it.

I would have thought the easiest way to tell is to look for the KDSS reservoir thingy on the frame along with the KDSS "plumbing"...but maybe that it just me.

I bleed it once after i installed my suspension as it was recommended. Not as bad as it sound lol. But agree, its expensive to get fixed if you dont know what you're doing.

I seriously doubt you bled it. You balanced it. which is a piece of cake as long as the instructions are read over about a thousand times since they are the worst written document ever produced in history :help: Unfortunately, that balancing lasts a few days and then the lean is typically back (if you have it after the lift).
