How did you blackout your toyota emblem?

I used a product called "plasti Dip" on my front grill area from Home Depot. I removed the radiator plastic cover...the little tabs just pop up there's like 12-13 of them. then 2 tiny phillips screws on the corners of the emblem. There are some clips you sorta pinch and the chrome bezel comes off. The Toyota logo stays in place but some tabs hold it there if you wanna pop it off too. Basically scuff the part till its a little dull, clean it with a good cleaner to get the grease and other things off it and paint using light coats spaced about 10 min apart. I did 4 coats. Keep in mind this is like a rubber product and dries matte black. I've pressure washed the crap out of it and it hasn't chipped or flaked. Its somewhat self healing too. i got a tiny rock ding and the rubber sorta covered back up. Paint would have chipped and soon water gets in and flakes it off.

hmm...i'm about to repaint the lower front bumper strip for the third time. damn thing chips like crazy. i'm interested in the vinyl cover that some have done but i might give this plasti dip thing a try first.

Stuff is pretty good! It sprays like a spray paint not like a thick goo so its very easy to use. Leaves a rugged matte black surface that has survived bug guts and the use of a pressure washer.

You void your warranty by painting the logo black? You void it by creating an account on Toyota forums? Seriously????

You'll lose your warranty on the emblem you paint. What are you going to tell the dealer if your emblem craps out. "I just woke up one morning and it was black"
They can deny warranty only on the part,or anything affected by that part as per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act of 1975. You Canucks may be on your own there though as it's only US.
And yes some of us on this forum are paid Toyota spies pretending they own a 4Runner and checking out who mods and who doesn't.They give it to Santa as a naughty and nice mod list.
eace:They are proud of these plastic parts and charge big bucks. Much cheaper to paint. Those parts you just mentioned would be close to or over $500 as they don't separate the front emblem"wings" that hold the emblem. You have to buy the whole upper grill section. I think the back"garnish" as it's called is something like $180 plus letters are like $40.
So far i've had the Plasti Dip on my front grill for a month and its holding up great. Now that i'm more comfortable with the process i'm thinking of painting all the chrome strips around the rig. I'm just trying to figure out how to remove the damn thing without having to take off the bumpers and rocker panels. I'm hoping they just pop out.

I painted all the chrome except the roof rack which will be replaced with a gobi or baja rack.
One of the main reasons why I painted as Harper7 pointed out is the parts are expensive. Instead of painting the fog lamp bezels (due to the chipping of the front strip) I opted to replace them with the TE bezels. See my write up here (post #68):

Sorry, not that easy, but it's also not that difficult. I did however remove the rocker panels from the truck to paint those strips.
