How do I know if I UCA's , new lift for my 5th gen

Im going to do the following.

OME 895E (1 1/2 lift" ) in rear with 5100's

Toytec Ultimate with 5100's (non adjustable) in the front and will adjust the CO's to 2 1/2"

This should give me 1" of rake for towing light loads like the tractor and ATV.

Trying to stay with a little lower of a lift. Going to run stock wheels with some GYDT's 265/70/17 "C" rated.

Are you asking if you'll need UCA's?

My guess is NO, since you're running stock size tires. (disclaimer: It's my guess, nothing more.)

I think with just 2.5 inches of lift you should be ok according to what I have read on here. In fact I think Antman just did 5100s in the front at 2.5 and he said it has been fine. I have been wondering the same thing as I have 5100s in the front currently at 1.75 and I want to go to 2.5. I have been wondering if UCAs are necessary also. If anyone else wants to add some additional information I'm sure the op and me would appreciate it.

Here the deal w/ 5100's. The lower the lift the easier it is to get higher caster angles.

@ 2.5" lift you can get the minimum caster specs of 2-2.5* which should be like factory. Anything over 2.5" you're getting to where it's a need and not a want.

But: lots of guys on here like it at 4* which you can't get without getting new UCAs. It will drive better at 4*.

Soooo if it's in the budget go ahead and do it. If not don't worry about it.

I'm personally planning on doing 5100's @ 2.5" and not doing UCAs - but I don't pay for labor. If I was paying for labor I'd probably go ahead and do them.

Also - if I were the OP I would do SAW springs and not the 895E. 895E are going to beat you to death unless you have a constant load on the vs the SAWs.

Thanks. This was helpful. I will probably go ahead and bump up my lift to 2.5 in the front and not get UCAs yet. If I don't like how it drives I can get them down the road.

This.

Ok thanks for the tip on the SAW's . I forgot about them.

Front suspension maybe I was not clear I was not planning to adjust the 5100's in the front. I wanted to buy fixed and adjust the CO with the spanner wrenches up to 2.5" or were ever I thought would be a good stance. Does this sound right or Im I smoking something ??

Help me figure this out guy's.

Adjust them to 2.5" and be done with it. Same answers.

Note to above comments - 895E are light to stock springs for the FJ. They are not heavies.

Not saying they are heavy, I'm saying they are stiff.

OME 895e are 260lb springs about +/- 40% stiffer vs SAWs 213lb or +/- 15%.

SAWs for me.

I had 895E on my FJ for 60,000 miles with no added weight and they were not any stiffer to stock IMO. I went to ARB application guide and they are not even showing as an option on the 4Runner.

Just to be clear - If you want adjustable coilovers you have to buy adjustable coilovers. 5100's have 4 different fixed position settings for the spring perch: no lift, 0.85", 1.75" and 2.5". The spring perch is adjusted prior to assembly and the only way to adjust the height after the strut has been assembled is to disassemble the strut and change spring perch setting. There is no adjustment of the 5100's w/ a spanner wrench.

They are calling these "height adjustable coil overs":

Toytec/Bilstein height adjustable coilovers

That's a 5100 shock set to maximum setting of 2.5" lift. They are calling it 3", so it's probably getting another 0.5" from a spacer on top. There is no adjusting the above set-up w/ a spanner wrench. It will only be adjusted by dissassembly and then the adjustment will be to one of the fixed positions.

It gets confusing because Toytec also manufactures a coilover assembly using the 5100's as the shock.

ToyTec Coil Overs (FJ, 03 & UP 4Run, & 05 & UP Tacoma)

This coilover is adjustable w/ a spanner wrench and you will have the infinite adjustment possibilities within its design parameters of 1-3" lift.

I have no personal experience w/ OME 895E's, but OME lists three different spring rates for 5th Gen 4Runners and 895E's are the lightest offered for "stock to medium loads". Wheelers lists them as 2" lift for a 5th Gen 4Runner.

The SAW coils will give 2+" lift! They provide a 12% increase in spring rate in addition to being 1.5" taller. You can't increase the spring rate and not get lift. If they were stock height and 12% stiffer and no other modifications were done to the vehicle you would get about 0.75" lift.

I went through all of this when I lifted my wife's 4Runner. If you want to lift the rear of a 5th Gen using springs less than 2" while adding a little spring rate so the rear isn't saggy under load the only option that I'm aware of is to have a set of custom coils made.

It really isn't hard to have coils made to your specs, all the information is in this thread:

The OME 895E are +/- 40% stiffer than stock.

Scroll down to page 2 of the attached link. This is directly from ARBUSA.com I have over sprung vehicles in the past the 895Es are not over sprung. My best advice on a setup - call ARB and talk to them directly. These guys will advise you on exactly the things you need for the vehicle you own. They design, build and test this stuff for a living. They get it right.

They are a 260lb spring. I've done extensive research on this stuff a couple years ago. The 895E is the same spring rate as an 895 but 1/2" shorter.

Read this (some of my personal research on OME).

Then this put together by the FJ guys.

Rear Spring Comparison - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

Where are you getting the stock spring rate for the rear coils on a 5th gen 4Runner from. I didn't see it listed on any of the threads you posted.

Thanks,

David
