How do I paint a smoked chrome grill...

I have the color matched grill on my truck now and I am thinking about using my sport smoked chrome grill to mod it into a satoshi grill. How would I go about painting the smoked chrome...I am thinking black or try and color match it.

yea, I would sand, clean, primer, wetsand, primer, paint, wetsand, paint, wetsand, paint, clear.

Ok well what grit should I start with? Also I just finished the blacked out headlight mod and used oven cleaner to get rid of the chrome do you think that would work on this?

I used both 320 grit and p180 grit 3m sand paper for my hatch cover. I you want a nice surface for the paint to stick too. If it helps you any heres my process for painting. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/67336-rear-liftgate-cover-removal.html
