How do these bolt up?

How do these skid plates bolt on? Do they get in the way of the factory tow hook?

I'm contemplating either buying one, or making one. I know it's purely for cosmetic purposes, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

Yeah, sorry man, I deleted it out of photobucket, not knowing it would affect my post......ha ha! Fixed it now......:art:
 
yup all u do is take out the factory tow hook and it goes right in between.
i had one on for a while but took it off because you couldn't even see mine with my stupid brush guard lower bar blocking it...i wish i wouldn't of sold it and still have it..
 
Well, I think I'm going to try and fab up my own, and make it so I can still have the tow hooks......heck, maybe even get some d-ring mounts.....

no ur hooks are still there i believe..the skid goes between the frame and the tow hook
 
Bak3rme is right. You just take off the tow hook, put on the the skid plate and then put the tow hook under that.

I don't think the front D ring mounts will work with it though.
 
Thanks for the info guys....I'm still waiting on finding some free material to work with.....I did find one locally for about $150.00, but don't want to pay that much. I did call the dealer here, they wanted over $400.00 for a Brand New one! Crazy bass turds!
 
I've got to save a few hundred bucks for my Procomp spare rim, and another Bighorn tire......so the skid plate...will most likely be a homemade job...ha ha!

I'm looking at over $500.00 for the wheel and tire combo....and only have about $180.00 of it saved up.....my bumper ate up some of my 4Runner fund :sobbing:

Ouch. The tire is about $170 down here.
 
Anybody ever try and modify the 4runner brackets, I'm wanting to get rid of the gap between the plate and the bumper. I'm guessing it would just be easier to find some tacoma brackets and do what RonMaiden did?
 
From what I can tell the tacoma plates have different brackets and holes than the 4runner plate.

Here is a picture of mine, see how the holes are in line with each other as opposed to the tacoma one where they are more beside each other.

My question is has anyone every mucked with the brackets pictured above or would I just be better off finding some tacoma ones and drilling the plate.
 
I had the sport edition skid plate on my truck when I first got it. I modified the skidplate to make it slightly narrower for better access to the tow hooks. I also bent the brackets so that it would sit higher up against the bumper. I don't need it anymore after building my custom bumper and skidplate. I would be willing to sell it if anyone is interested. I'll try to find some pics. PM me if interested.
