How do they know what a vehicle is worth?

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Some people REALLY need to get their priorities straight. I personally know of 3 examples that are very similar to the one quoted above.

I'm so cheap I use a pre-paid cell phone. Bought it for $35 and bought 100 min's, which lasts me for over a year :) Only use it around once per month for a couple of minutes (to keep the number active) and when it is very important/emergency. That makes the average cost around $3-5 per month. :D Hey I'm a poor retired guy, got to cut back where I can.

One of the trainers at the gym I go to drives an Escalade and wears a $6500 Rolex Submariner. If this guy is lucky he is making $40K a year and I doubt he has any savings and he is around 40 years old. The owner of the place drives a Viper and just bought a solid 18kt gold submariner valued at $28K, when I asked him about it he felt the watch was an investment and he got a deal on it and also on the Viper :) He's in his 30's. :eek:

If he thinks a car or a watch is an investment there is no hope for him.
 
There still is hope. That is if he bought a impala ss with a 409 or a original shelby cobra or something. But a wach. i bet 10 bucks that he got it from canal street

Same thing at my gym, yeah you have the guys who have money but mostly the parking lot is made up of posers tryin to look better then the next guy, I gotta laugh all these guys an girls in designer clothes, brand new sneakers, and they have a set for each day of the week, some go a month without wearing the same thing, then their is me where I come in wearing rags compared to the others:D

What is it with gyms and Vipers, mine has several, at the gym this guy parks his black coupe in the back corner, the back window says I worked hard for this, liscense plate says suck it, he drives it everyday;):
 
Had a friend of mine murdered by a couple of personal trainers in Miami Fla around 10 years ago. My buddy had big bucks, drove a Diablo and lived in a 1,000,000+ house. Had the Rolex Presidential 18 kt watch with the diamond dial, plus boat etc. He made it and he showed it off. I always total him he was way too high profile for Miami, but he was a great guy and figured no one would ever bother him. He was from Romania. He had a beautiful Romanian girl friend. She was a customer of one of these personal trainers and it was later determined that they use to find their targets by pumping their customers for information. When they murdered my friend they were being sought by the police for similar kidnaping and torture crimes agains't other non-american residents. They told my buddies girl friend that they were looking for investers for a marina and wanted to meet him and take them both to dinner and talk business. I just happen to be at his house for the week before this happened on vacation and was leaving town the day of the dinner party to get back to work in Atlanta. Frank wanted me to stay and go to dinner with all of them and let him know what I thought of the investment. I had to get back to work so I couldn't stay and left that morning. I guess it's lucky for me that I had to go back to work, but I've always wondered if I would of stayed if the bad guys would of waited and the police would of caught them before they murdered my buddy and his girl friend. After the police caught the guys they found out that it was a group of over 15 individuals that were going after rich foriegn nationals with no ties to the USA, kidnapping them and torturing them, draining their bank accounts and taking their jewelry and then killing them. The reason the police were finally on to these guys is because they left one guy to die in a burning vehicle and he happened to live. After he got out of ICU in the hospital and was able to communicate to the police who the bad guys were the police were looking for them when they got my friend. That's why I have always wondered if I would of stayed and had dinner if these guys would of backed off that night since I would of been in the mix. Anybody else been that close to being in the wrong place at the wrong time?
 
He said maybe. There's always a chance that something else can happen. When they invited the couple to dinner they only had plans for two victims.....when a 3rd person shows up...that can potentially mess things up.

If you look in the mug shots gallery aat my picture....I'm holding a kid. His father was a high profile person and both his parents were murdered while he was sitting in the back seat of their X5. The case is still unsolved, the killer used a silencer and took nothing. It was an assasination. hmm....this is getting off topic.....sorry!
 
I can't find the kid, please link it or post it, since you mentioned him I'd like to see him and are you the 1 who cares for him.

Back on topic here...let me ask you a question...if $$ is a factor, then why did you buy a 4runner and not a Kia Sorento?? Ok, i admit, that's an extreme example.:D

As far as GX vs. 4runner, there are good reasons why people pay the extra $$ for the GX...like luxury things (Mark levinson, memory seats, sound insulation, wood stuff, etc.), superb customer service, and extra warranty period.

As for the X5, it has an independent suspension and unibody...both of which are more costly to develop than solid axle and body-on-frame. That's just one part. BMW is a luxury brandname and has similar benefits to the Lexus benefits.

With the X5, FX, Porsche, you're not comparing the same class of vehicle since these are cross-overs, not true rough-&-tough SUVs.

For you, you did not want all the extra pampering stuff...so you chose the 4runner. Others want it.
 
This world is an efed up one. That is why i keep my priorities straight, my family close, and enemies closer (yes that line is not original, but true). Nothing i can really say to that story except, bad shit happens to goo people all the time

These guys were bold, I was later told by my buddies neighbor that she was invited over to have cocktails with all of them before they left for dinner and they were driving a stolen Mercedes that belonged to one of their previous victims. It also came out later that they drugged my buddy and his girl friend with roftinal (sp) date rape drug, my friend had a heart condition and the drug killed him so they raped his girl friend, dumped his Diablo in the swamp and cutup their bodies and placed them in 50 gallon barrels and also dumped them in the swamp. They never found their heads or hands and had to ID them from DNA and the girl friend had breast implants and they could ID her from a number on the implant. There were big stories on all of this in the papers in Miami, the Police stated that they had never seen criminals that were so sadistic and compared their tactics to what goes on in eastern euro countries. Yes I think you are right if I would of been along I would be dead. I was never real trusting before this happen and now I don't trust anyone, period. :(

Thai, I hear what your saying but, there is not that much difference in luxury or warranty between a decked out 4runner and a GX470, but the GX470 costs 40% more. It's all about the prestige :D factor.

My dealer shares the service department with Lexus, they are right next to each other in connected buildings only the showrooms are separate. They say that they have only Lexus mechanics work on the Lexus and Toyota mechanics work on the Toyotas. I'm not that stupid to believe that line :) When I'm in for service I go another 50 feet and sit in the Lexus waiting room for them to finish with my 4runner :) When I bought my 4runner I even bought it in the Lexus showroom since I first drove the GX470 and they allow the Lexus guys to sell Toyotas.

That was also the case when I lived in Atlanta. So now I live in a weird town :) the BMW dealership is in the same parking lot but does have a separate service area.
 
Lecus takes better care of it's customers

You get what you pay for... How many V8 4Runners have the harmonic vibration which has a TSB from Lexus? The mechanics may have the same competence level in certain locations, but overall, I'd say Lexus mechanics are better quality (they can be more selective), and with each Lexus serviced you get a rental.
