How do you change the oil in your push mower?

I have changed mine a few times and can never get all the oil out! Any tips? Mine is a CraftsMan with no drain plug, u have to tip the stupid thing over.

I have the same problem, but alter the position of the mower when it is upside-down. Tilt it, shake it and rock it a bit -- until you don't get even a drop coming out of it.

When you put in the new oil, be sure to check the level. Most small mowers take (I believe) 22 ounces.

There is a plug at the bottom of the engine. Sometimes its hard to get to, remove blade, remove dust cover. But with that method you will get all of it out

I will look! I need to sharpen the blade any ways.

You can warm it up for a few minutes (just 2 or 3), usually gets the oil warmed up a little and will flow better. I do that on my Suzuki LTR450 quad with no issues. Don't let it warm up for more than 2 or 3 minutes or else you might burn yourself.

Haha no problem man. Whenever we visit my relatives in Michigan we always have to bring a case of Molson Brador for them, I guess they get sick of American beer!

Lawnmower Oil


I have a lawnmower with a Briggs & Stratton engine in it. I changed the oil and the spark plug yesterday. I had to turn it upside-down AND open the drain plug (use a socket wrench) on the bottom. Dang thing was hard to see because of all the grass caked up under there!

Anyway, get all of that stuff outta there before you fill it up again with the 20 ounces of 30-weight (4 cycle) motor oil.

crap. I gotta do this too. I think my lawn mower is leaking oil. Should i drain it and add more, or just add more?

I never knew this either. I have always just tipped the thing to change it out.
