How do you Map your offroad roads?

what GPS unit do you use to map where you have been and pin favorite spots

I'm afraid to use my phone cause it doesn't do GPS very well when it can't get cell service, and I seem to break it too often so I want this mounted solid in the truck and not taken out. so what product do you use to map your 4runner offroad adventures?

Look into Backcountry Navigator if you have a Android phone. It can use maps from caltopo.com and you can select an area to download for when you don't have service.

I use BackCountry Navigator Pro for Android with my Nexus 7.

Works great.

That reminds me of that movie Short Circuit, NO DISASSEMBLE. I don't know if I could drive around with that thing staring at me like that lol. Very cool device though, and great advice.

I thought about getting an 8" but I use it for internet browsing, and I have old eyes and it's easy to see. It's not really that big a deal when I'm offroad (which is the only time I use it). It all comes apart easily. You can cache the maps so no internet service is required to use it offroad. I use the USFS maps (free), but only cover areas around forest service land.

I'm using my galaxy tab s 8.4 for mapping and GPS. Works great for both. I'm still toying between Gaia pro and Backcountry navigator. There are things I like better about each. Also PDFmaps is a great app to translate a PDF map into a digital map that you can use on your device with GPS.

I've heard great things about the BadElf for a dedicated GPS from one of the Camel Trophy guys at Expo East this year.

a friend of mine just has a cheap garmin and what is nice is that it will back track, taking you back out on the exact same route if needed

I use LeadNav for iOS, first time using it last weekend. Worked great for having a GPS readout on a topo map when you have no cell service. Can also plan waypoints and other navigation stuff.
