How Do You remove the silver center pieces on the front and rear bumper?

I am going to take off the front and rear center sections of my bumpers a have a buddy paint them black to match my 4runner. Does anyone know how to get them off? I read somewhere that the rear is held on with tape, but not really sure on that.

I always thought the silver bumper trim was part of the bumper and just painted a different color.

no need to bump... the silver accents are apart of your bumper. Remove the entire bumper or just mask off the sides before painting.

Silver Sections of the front & rear bumper

Hey...
Has anyone painted these? Good idea or not?

I actually have a Titanium SE and was considering painting the center sections a darker gray, just to make them stand out a little bit (since right now the whole bumper is silver).

Any thoughts?

This doesn't really have to do with painting it but I wanted to throw a comment in anyway . I really like the silver center of the bumper, especially since my Runner is black. It really helps protect the paint on some of the trails I travel where the center of the trail is grown up about 2 feet or so. I'm sure it would make some noticeable marks on the black paint, but it doesn't show at all on the silver.

I stand corrected. Apparently the rear piece can be removed. I'm not certain on the front piece anymore

Alright. So the rear CAN be removed for painting.

Anyone know if the front can be taken off as well?

I actually looked into painting my bumper accents about a month ago and decided it was too much of a hassle. I have a black SE and wanted to color match the accents as well.

I decided not to because the accents are textured and it would take a hell of a lot of sanding through the clear-coat, paint and then through the texturing as well to get any amount of paint to stick.

Take a close look at the bumper and you can see what I'm talking about.

HOWEVER, I may still try in the future. I was even thinking about spraying that Rhino truck bed liner on there to see if it would take. I think it would look awesome and give the truck a tougher look.

Yes the lower front is seperate from the top front.
