I don't like the fact that it's at a dealer but looks to be clean condition and reasonably priced if I can haggle them down a bit. Obviously I will check the carfax and if it has any service records. It's about two hours away but being were I am everything I find is at least that distance. not a bad price at all IMO, but def check it over closely and ask about maintenance logs/records. Timing belt / water pump should have been done around 100k. Usually that's very conspicuously marked in the engine bay. If it hasn't been done but it runs great, no knocks, etc. some dealers (one here in Lincoln would, for instance) will do it for $400 parts+labor.
Thanks for the input just talked to him said it is sold but just got another one In supposedly black 2000 4wd sr5 with 20k less miles said he would sale for the same price. Gonna send me pics and carfax today I'll post up when I get them and keep the updates going. Hopefully will be in a 3rd gen by the end of the week if I can find a solid mechanical vehicle.

op2: I love black runnersI bought mine for $4500 with 157k. It was a west coast/east coast... Cali emissions and New England rust.
2 things tho:
Make sure the CEL bulb comes on when key is in Acc mode
Look for new radiator in it- could've suffered the strawberry shake.
I like the "throw in a timing belt" deal as a negotiation tool

Just an FYI, but the majority of the used cars you see on a $10million dollar high end dealer lot are bought at the same auction the $5,000 cars are bought at.

I'd be leery of FINANCING through a buy here/pay here lot. They usually have a clause where if you are a day late on a payment the whole amount is due . They fulfill a need for people with poor credit though.
Those two 4Runners look to be in good shape and the prices are reasonable. I wouldn't walk away if they won't haggle. I would want to check the Carfax to see if the stated mileage is correct. As someone mentioned make sure the CEL light comes on when you turn the key to ACC. Also check the frame for rust and make sure it will go into 4WD.
There was just a gorgeous dark blue 2001 4Runner Sport locally. It was one owner. The Carfax showed it had been dealer serviced its whole life. The timing belt and everything was shown. The mileage was normal, I think 125k. It was $5999. It came up on Autotrader on a Saturday night and was gone by Tuesday morning. I was out of town or I probably would have bought it for my son, who just happens to have $6k to spend. I'm still hurting.

Was going to pay cash so no financing, was getting the family loaded up and he called and said the black one just sold also. It was a lot better looking than the red one also. So I missed out oh well the search continues. Would have loved to have the black looked clean and had some proper maintenance done.

Next time see if they'll agree to hold on to it for an hour or two, if nobody is in the process of buying it. It's not cool for them to let you drive out if it could be sold before you get there, so they should agree.
Very budget friendly maintenance and mods. Gonna start a mini build thread as I would call it. Ordering a trans cooler today and have to get something to try and remove blemishes in the paint and some scuffs. All fluids were just recently changes so I'm good on that. Also some trd stickers in the very near future and some plasti dip.
