How does this sound?

First, a huge thank you to this forum for the wealth of information that I have spent way too much time browsing through over the past few weeks (or really, years). I have been convinced to skip the Daystar spacer lift.

I have some final questions before I pull the trigger on upgrading my suspension. I have an '08 4WD V6 SE. I don't go offroad at all, but would not mind doing some light stuff, especially once I do this. Just some fire trails or whatever to get camping.

Plan: Ditch XREAS and go with Bilstein 5100's all around. I want a decent amount of lift but can't be doing $400 UCA's right now, so I am pretty set on 1.75" in the front.

My thinking has been FJ coils all around and a 1.5 spacer in the back. I know that some believe this maintains too much rake. I think I am ok with it based on Evan B's pics, but would not mind slightly less on the rear - more than FJ springs/5100, but less than FJ/5100/1.5. Is there a different coil I can put on? A smaller spacer? People swear by the FJ coils, so I'm leaning to work with those if I can (found some with 40,000 miles for $50 + $30 shipping, but I'm wary of the mileage).

If I can't find an FJ set, what are some similar options? Stock springs with 5100 at 1.75 and rear spacer? Is there a well-liked, affordable spring alternative to the FJ's? I have read some debate about whether the Bilstein's should be used with non-OEM coils.

Tires will likely be 265/70/17 Toyo OC A/T2.

Also, if anyone in Denver wants to get their hands dirty, lemme know.

someone correct me if im wrong but the 1.75 setting should pre-compress the stock spring and give it a firmer ride?

Thanks. Also, just came across these "Moog" FJ springs. Don't know much about them, but sounds like they are a reasonable alternative, and might even provide a bigger lift in the rear, which could be my solution (without spacer)..

Though on second look, it seems that folks here are not huge fans of Moog. So what are some better coil alternatives?

I recently picked up some 2013 FJ rear coils for $99 to the door from Ebay. I got 3/4" on the driver side and 1" on the passenger with a full tank of gas. They were a direct swap and a bit stouter than the 07-10 coils.

Direct swap? I was under the understanding that coils outside of 07-09 required adjustment to fit, which is not something I'm capable of

Coils are all the same, it's the FJ shocks that need work in the later years!

Good to know! I was suspecting that but kept running into things that occasionally said that for coils too.

Since that will make the FJ swap more realistic, I guess a 1" rear spacer could be the perfect solution. They seem to be tough to come by unfortunately.

Cornfed will make you any size spacer you want.

Until recently I had fj's all around with a 1.5" in rear and a 1" daystar budget boost in front. Worked great for several years. With 265/70's was 36" in front height and 38" in rear fender measurements.

I have since changed to a different setup. I am actually in the process of cutting my 1.5" spacers down to a 1" thickness. Here is a pick of the old setup

Can someone confirm that 2013 FJ coils would work with no modification? On the sticky it says that the 2010 requires modification, but I have read numerous people say that is just for the strut, not the coil alone. There is a set available but it's not cheap so I don't want to have to mod it

i'd find a cheaper one then. You shouldn't have to modify the spring. Make sure its from a 4x4.

I got my rear coils for the price of shipping.

I was told the coils themselves will work without modding anything. If you use the shocks then yes, some modding (enlarging mounting holes) is needed. Also, the coils alone (from what in told) don't provide much of a lift. You still have to use other suspension components to get a lift/level (if that's what you're after).

I just got my FJ coils & 5100's. Install coming ASAP!!

Good luck!!

The coils are what provide the lift. it's not much, correct, but the shocks don't provide lift. If you want more lift you need to get bigger lift springs, spacers, or height adjustable shocks (only for the front)

Right, I understand that. I was just pointing out that the springs alone don't provide much of a lift. He will need to add spacers, height adjustable shocks etc. to get an appreciable lift.

Thanks. $150 including shipping from 1600 miles away for 2013 set with a couple thousand miles on it. Thought I would ask for $125, not a bad deal considering shipping is probably $30-$40.

Thanks for looking out! Yeah, as I mentioned above I am planning on doing adjustable 5100 up front (1.75), FJ springs all around, 5100 rear, and probably daystar 1.5 spacer in rear because even though 1" spacer is ideal, I don't want to pay Cornfed over $100 for it. OK with some rake, with this if it really bothers me I can save up for UCA's and go to 2.5

Why not just go to the 2.5 mark with the stock UCA's?

I am under the impression that A/M UCA's are not needed for <3" front lift???

I plan on using the top setting on my 5100's & using 1.5" Daystars (and doing it with stock UCA's).

I think a few have done this successfully, but enough people have had issues with the alignment and CV boots leaking that I don't want to deal with. I'm not very handy and will be gathering a few people to help me with the install. If it doesn't work out, I can't just head out to my garage for a couple hours and put it back to 1.75. Since I have to basically get it right the first time, I'm going with 1.75.

Remember, 2.5 + FJ springs on the lighter V6 can get you over 3". If you are using stock springs, not FJ, perhaps you don't need to upgrade UCA's but I've gathered that stock springs with 5100's at 2.5 has its own issues (compresses coil or something)

Im using 08 TT FJ springs for mine. I am expecting just shy of 3" up front, and approximately 2.25"-2.5" out back (with 1.5" Daystars).

Curious to see how you make out!
