Speed limit here is a max of 65, so I typically go 67.
I get fantastic mileage, typically 21.5- 22.
There's a of 55mph roads too, on those I'll do just under 65.
I swear, RI has got to have some of the slowest speed limits in the country.

What sort of psi are you running? Also, I love Rhode Island.

No issues as long as you're not holding that speed for some time.. I've done it at least a couple of times with KO2s
I did notice with 285s I found it struggling in the last push above 100mph

I guess i'm the only one annoyed with the lack of power to try and "Cruise" faster than 80. it's not a cruise if the minivan is struggling lol.

Yeah, it's my biggest complaint about the 4Runner. The motor makes good power on paper, but the power peaks are way too high in the RPM range to be of use in the real world. It feels gutless because it makes no low end torque.
My 2.5L 5cyl Volvo wagon feels like a rocket compared to the 4R. It only makes 208hp/236 tq, but the tq peak is under 2k rpm. RIGHT where you need it during everyday driving. This thing is awesome at passing, merging, steep grades, and stoplight drags.
It's all about that small, low pressure turbo. Doesn't make a lot of peak HP, but it's GREAT for low end. Ever since getting into 4R, I've thought this motor would be GREAT in a 1st gen, haha (or a CJ/YJ/TJ).

Honestly, I couldn't even tell you. I bought this in Feb, it's a 13 TE that's just about to roll 92k miles. It's rolling on fairly new Dueler H/T's (I believe what this would have come from the factory with) and the PSI is whatever it was when I picked it up from the dealer. I assume stock pressure.
I had one snowfall after getting this, and I HATED these tires in the snow. I'll be replacing them before winter rolls around again, but at least they're silent and great for mpg.
I've actually had a best tank of 24.6mpg. Coming back from upstate NY on 90, cruising at 70ish the whole way with no traffic. 436 miles on the trip meter, with 65 miles range still showing when I pulled into my driveway. When we were getting closer to home, I honestly thought there was something wrong with the gauge, lol. I was stoked when I filled it up and hand calculated that mileage.
Not gonna lie, there was more downhill that u[p, and I probably had a tail wind, but still impressive.
This is my first sub 300 hp vehicle in a long time. It is definitely not fast and I would love some extra power. However, if your 4Runner is struggling to maintain a speed of 80 mph, you may want to inquire with your local dealership's service department as there may be something not functioning properly with your vehicle. In ca. the Highway Patrol told me keep it under 80 and we won't bother you, That was 10 years ago and he's right not on problem. but it did cost me alot to find out since i had to pay the ticket for 95 in a 70 then.

Ahhh...Texas. Land of the 75-85 speed limits! Nothing like setting the cruse control at 120 and shortening the distance between Dallas and Houston.
BUT NOT IN THE 4RUNNER...70mph nets me just under 18 MPG. This PRO has the aerodynamics of a brick on stilts. Aerodynamic drag increases at the cube of speed. 80 is not twice the drag of 40...it is 3 times the drag. I actually get better mileage on my commute 40-60 mph than on the open highway.
The 4Runner can do 80+ with no issues...but I would be running in 4th gear most of the time. No thanks. I will save the 80-85+ speeds for vehicles actually designed to thrive at those speeds...

Local Central MD driving - 75-80-ish on the highway usually, netting an average of around 14-14.5mpg
Learned from our drive out to SD/ND that 85mph cruise (80mph speed limit) plus hills and crosswinds equate to ~12mpg and the truck living in 3rd/4th gear. On the contrary, returning through Northern Ontario at 95kph resulted in 18.5-19.5mpg even through hilly terrain.
With that being said, I'll accept the annoying aspect of a transmission that refuses to return to 5th gear and low fuel economy to continue the 5-15mph over the speed limit cruising speeds.

But yeah ditto what you said. This truck is most efficient between 60 and 70, no doubt. 21+mpg here too and no cops bother me
Same, cruise set to 68 - 72. 20 - 21 mpg on the highway.

We run 73-74 in a 70 mph zone. Being as the 4Runner is mostly stock it will get over 20 mpg most times

70-80 on highways, max 90 but only passing. 65 max offroading or dirt roads. Netting about 16mpg average city/highway, it's on in the play of your foot [emoji6]

4mph to 9mph over the speed limit most of the time for me.
Lots of 2 lane 55mph roads around here and I will punch it to pass a slow poke who's usually doing 10 to 15mph under the speed limit.
Found myself doing 80mph passing one of those slow pokes not too long ago. The 4Runner has some go, you just have to dig for it.
